‘Science, Engineering competition promotes innovation among youth’

KUWAIT CITY, April 19, (KUNA): Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri has hailed the Kuwait Science and Engineering Competition as model of sincere effort to promote innovation among youth.
This competition is a model of the strategic partnership between the Kuwait Science Club as well as state institutions and civil society organizations to incentivize innovation and scientific excellence among youth, the minister told KUNA on the sidelines of the prize-giving ceremony of the sixth Kuwait Science and Engineering Competition (2017-2018).
He noted that the competition, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, also showed the keenness of Kuwait’s loyal men to harness the capabilities of youth, especially in supporting researchers and innovators to prepare a generation that is able to steer the country towards more progress and development.

Al-Jabri highly appreciated the generous care given by the political leadership to youth.
He added that this pioneering competition shed lights on the importance of scientific research in building states and developing societies.
The annual event is one of the activities of the National Program for the Care of Young Researchers and Innovators launched by the Kuwait Science Club.
It brings together hundreds of students from all public and privates schools in Kuwait to vie for the top prizes in fields of scientific research, engineering, environment reservation, robots, physics and chemistry.
Later, the Kuwait Science Club announced the winning schools of this year’s contest.
Director of Street Lighting Department in the Ministry of Electricity and Water Engineer Adel Mahmoud released statistics on street lights, indicating nearly 241,009 light posts have been installed in various streets, reports Al-Rai daily.
In an interview, Engineer Mahmoud pointed out that each light pole consumes about 106 megawatts, and the department has signed six contracts for maintenance work. He noted the contract ranges from KD 1,250,000 to KD 1,300,000.
He also said the ministry is striving in coordination with Ministry of Public Works and Public Authority for Housing Care to adopt the installation of LED lamps in the tenders of new housing cities, indicating LED lamps are more beneficial compared to Sodium and Mercury. He reiterated the light poles in Kuwait work automatically by photovoltaic cell.

Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday received a Romanian delegation led by the Director of Projects at Romanian Federation for Information and Communication Florin Frigo.
Several board members of KCCI led by Director Imran Habib Jowhar Hayat were present at the meeting
alongside the representatives of Kuwaiti companies.
In an address, Hayat welcomed the delegation and noted the visit will contribute to enhance relations between the two friendly countries.
For his part, Frigo expressed appreciation to KCCI and commended the outstanding role it plays in enhancing economic relations between Kuwait and Romania. He added the visit aims to enlighten Kuwaiti investors about the countless opportunities available in his country, especially in the field of information and communication.
