Institution specializes in info tech and business
KUWAIT CITY, April 19: Saud Jafar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Algonquin College Kuwait, affirmed the ability of the college to enroll 550 high school graduates in its programs in the 2018/2019 academic year, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In a press statement, Jafar explained that, the college had the ability to enroll 400 high school graduates in its academic programs at the start of the current academic year, but the number of those who registered was very low, about 200 students. Some of them were under internal scholarship program, while the rest were paying from their pockets.
The college has a space capacity of accommodating 1,800 students of both genders, but the college decides on the number of admission seats for students to be between 400 and 550 at the beginning of every academic year, based on factors such as teaching staff members, academic capability, etc.
He indicated that 20 new students registered in the second semester due to their inability to register in the first semester, adding that they all are self-sponsoring students, as Private Education Council has not opened registrations for local scholarship programs for the second consecutive year.
Jafar said some of the new students are accepted directly into the programs after successfully passing the entrance test at the college, which determines their level in English, Mathematics and Science, as the majors in the college are based on these three subjects. Some of the new students are accepted into programs after undertaking preparatory courses at the start in order to come up to the required level.
It is worth mentioning that Algonquin College Kuwait is a private post-secondary educational institution in Kuwait specializing in information technology and business. The college is located in Jahra area, and was authorized to operate in Kuwait by an Amiri Decree issued in October 2010. The college is a branch campus of Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada.
