Sheikh Nasser chairs 11th meeting
KUWAIT CITY, May 22, (KUNA): First Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad AlSabah presided over the 11th meeting of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD) on Tuesday.
The council discussed items listed on the agenda that included a memorandum of the media and general policies committee’s view on a strategy to counter terrorism, Minister of State for Housing Affairs and Minister of State for Services Affairs Jenan Boushehri said after the meeting.
The gathering also focused on a memorandum on the economic development committee’s view regarding Jaber hospital, Boushehri, also Acting Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, and Minister of State for Economic Affairs, added.
A visual presentation was showcased during the meeting on the plan of institutions and bodies belonging to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry so as to achieve the desired development in line with the vision of His Highness the Amir, she noted.
The state budget during the current fiscal 2018/2019 includes studies for several expenses including research and consulting, the roadmap in the area of privatization, government facilities, not to mention the scrutiny of enterprise assets, reports Al-Rai daily.
The daily quoting reliable sources said the budget for expenses in this area is estimated about 2.3 million dinars which will cover the cost of developing a plan for research and studies in the area of privatization.
The head of the technical committee of the privatization program, Sheikh Fahad Salem Al-Sabah, revealed last year a comprehensive survey of the most important government sectors, which can be privatized were taken into consideration which is to be done over 25 years.
However, the first and most important step is to study the project and its feasibility to understand if the goals can be achieved.
The budget includes the costs of a strategic study on the allocation of government facilities at the state level with a value of 385 thousand dinars.
In this regard, the Council of Ministers has been briefed on the recommendation of the Economic Affairs Committee in the semi-annual report on the work and activities of the Supreme Council for Privatization.
The report has prepared the first phase of the draft strategy for the privatization of government facilities and the adoption of the Supreme Council’s plan for the next 25 years.
The project has also prepared a feasibility study for the allocation of the Shuaiba North power station in cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) and the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development.
The preliminary study also included the possibility of developing the efficiency of Kuwait International Airport in coordination with the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation.
