‘England can win World Cup’:

Ruben Loftus-Cheek says England’s young squad boast “frightenin­g” talent that could take them all the way to World Cup glory in Russia.

The 22-year-old, part of the thirdyoung­est Three Lions squad to head to a World Cup, is backing captain Harry Kane’s belief that they can win the tournament. Loftus-Cheek, who feared he would miss the World Cup following an ankle injury, has long been touted as a future star at Chelsea but it is on loan at Crystal Palace that he has impressed, leading to his first call-up in November. Rooney to meet DCU bosses:

Everton forward Wayne Rooney will break from his family holiday to travel to Washington this week to meet bosses at Major League Soccer side DC United, reports said on Wednesday.

Rooney has reportedly agreed “in principle” to a $17 million (£13 million) deal with the MLS club that would see the 32-year-old depart Everton, his boyhood club, just 12 months after rejoining them from Manchester United. (AFP)

Celta hire Mohamed:

Spanish club Celta Vigo have hired Argentine coach Antonio Mohamed on a two-year contract.

Mohamed replaces Juan Carlos Unzue, who left after team failed to qualify for a European competitio­n next season. (AP)
