Kuwait’s minister says ILO, GCC meetings ‘fruitful’
GENEVA, June 2, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh has said that Israel is the only world country that takes no heed of the UN resolutions, of human rights, and has gone too far in oppressing the Palestinian people.
Al-Sabeeh, also Minister of State for Economic Affairs, made the statement to KUNA Friday on the sidelines of a solidarity event with the Palestinian people organized by the Arab Labor Organization (ALO) on the sidelines of the 107th International Labor Conference (ILC) in Geneva.
The minister hoped the next session of the ALO would be held in Jerusalem “as the capital of the Palestinian state after the (Israeli) occupation is defeated.” Kuwait hoped that all reports by the UN organizations on Israel’s violations against the Palestinians would turn into implantable resolutions on the ground.
She stressed how the Director General of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder commended Kuwait’s support to the Palestinian labor.
Meetings between GCC Ministers of labor and Director General of the UN International Labor Organization (ILO) Guy Ryder came out with fruitful results, which will contribute to ties’ development, said Kuwaiti Minister Hind Al-Sabeeh late Thursday.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Sabeeh said that the meetings touched on the issue of job opportunities for GCC citizens at ILO bureaus in Geneva and Beirut, affirming that such possibility will allow Gulf nationals to exchange expertise within the labor domain.
Al-Sabeeh added that the GCC group had expressed its view over the UN discussions on an international instrument for refuge and immigration, saying that the Gulf countries implemented certain set of rules when it came to immigration laws.
The GCC states have signed agreements in the labor sphere with 13 nations, regulating the hiring of foreign labor in their lands, said the Kuwaiti minister. Minister Al-Sabeeh took part yesterday in the 107th International Labor Conference, delivering a speech on women’s empowerment in the labor sphere in GCC.
The ILO annual conference began on May 28 and will continue until June 8.
