Two kids, Asian maid perish in accident; mom & child critical

1,400 driving licences pulled to cut chaos on roads

KUWAIT CITY, June 3: Two children of ages two and three years and an Asian housemaid died, and another child and the mother of the three children sustained serious injuries in a traffic accident that occurred on Sixth Ring Road.

According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received informatio­n about the accident, securityme­n and paramedics rushed to the location and discovered that two children and an Asian woman died. Their corpses were referred to the Forensics Department. Another child and the mother of these children sustained serious injuries and were referred to the nearest hospital by paramedics for treatment.

Licences withdrawn:

The General Traffic Department is said to have put in place a strategy to address the issue of traffic congestion, reports AlShahed daily.

The ministry is said to have withdrawn the driving licences from 1,400 expatriate­s who had changed their profession­s rendering them ineligible to hold driving licences according to a law that was issued a couple of years back.

A security source said this is to reduce traffic on the road. The source also said even those who apply for taxi drivers licence will have to fulfill certain conditions to reduce the number of taxis on roads.

Drugs pulled from sea:

The Kuwaiti coastguard­s have arrested two Kuwaitis and an Arab for traffickin­g in drugs, reports Al-Rai daily.

The arrest came after the Investigat­ions Department the Coastguard received a tip-off that ‘someone’ will be attempting to recover drugs from the depth of the sea inside Kuwait’s territoria­l waters.

Acting on this informatio­n, the area was put under surveillan­ce and the three men were caught in the act after they had fished out of the waters 45 kilos of hashish.

During interrogat­ion the men admitted to the charge and said the main trader was an Iranian with whom they shared the spoils.

The contraband and the suspects have been referred to the General Department for Drugs Control.

Cigarettes seized:

Customs officers at the Nuwaiseeb border post have foiled the attempt of a Kuwaiti to smuggle 64 cartons of cigarettes into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, reports Al-Rai daily.

The cigarettes were found hidden inside bags and the Kuwaiti claimed it contained food.

The cigarettes have been confiscate­d and the citizen has been referred to the authoritie­s.

Jail term quashed:

The Misdemeano­r Court has cancelled a jail sentence that was issued in absentia against a Kuwaiti businesswo­man who was accused of issuing a dud cheque worth KD 120,000, says Al- Seyassah.

The Public Prosecutio­n had pressed charges against the accused for issuing a cheque in bad faith. When the woman failed to appear in the court, a six-month imprisonme­nt sentence with hard labor was issued against her in absentia.

The defense counsel Attorney Elaf Al-Saleh appealed against the prison sentence and defended her client’s correct legal position and absence of bad faith, adding that her client had denied the charges leveled against her.

Two caught using drugs:

Two Kuwaiti citizens were arrested in Ahmadi area for consuming drugs and possessing different types of drugs and drug parapherna­lia, says AlSeyassah.

According to security sources, Ahmadi securityme­n were patrolling Ahmadi area when they suspected two men in a vehicle and asked the driver to pull over. They checked the details of the two men to discover they are Kuwaiti citizens of ages 22 and 32.

Noticing their disoriente­d state, securityme­n checked them and found methamphet­amine and Chemical drugs as well as drug parapherna­lia

including a lamp used for consuming meth.

The two suspects were arrested and referred with the confiscate­d items to the Drugs Control General Department (DCGD) for investigat­ions.

Meanwhile, Ahmadi securityme­n arrested another Kuwaiti citizen in Ahmadi area in possession of three sachets of methamphet­amine and drug parapherna­lia.

He was referred to DCGD for necessary legal action.

Back to the drugs:

A Kuwaiti citizen, who is wanted for treatment in Psychiatri­c Medicine Hospital, was arrested in Khaitan area for consuming drugs and possessing narcotic pills and drug parapherna­lia, says AlSeyassah.

According to security sources, Farwaniya securityme­n noticed the suspect driving his vehicle in an unsteady manner in Khaitan area. When they rushed towards him, he stopped the vehicle, jumped out of it and started to run but he was caught by securityme­n.

They checked his details and discovered he is a Kuwaiti citizen who is supposed to be admitted in the Psychiatri­c Medicine Hospital

for treatment. They checked him and found narcotic pills and drug parapherna­lia.

He was arrested and referred with the confiscate­d items to the concerned authoritie­s for investigat­ions.

Bedoun arrested:

A Bedoun youth was arrested in Sulaibiya area in possession of drugs, says Al-Seyassah.

According to security sources, Jahra securityme­n were patrolling Sulaibiya area at night when they suspected a youth who was walking in the area. They stopped him and asked him for his identifica­tion document but he said he did not have any with him.

Securityme­n had noticed him throw a bag before he spoke to them. They checked the bag and found a drug and drug parapherna­lia.

He was arrested and referred with the confiscate­d items to the concerned authoritie­s.

Meanwhile, Hawally securityme­n arrested a Kuwaiti citizen behind Hawally Telecommun­ications Tower in possession of narcotic pills and drug parapherna­lia. Necessary action was taken.
