Waiver will cover unpaid bills until Dec 31, 1995: Al-Rasheedi
KUWAIT CITY, June 10: Minister of Electricity and Water Bakheet Al-Rasheedi has asked for the names of Kuwaiti POWs and martyrs whose bodies have yet to be discovered in preparation to waiving electricity and water bills for their families. The decision is based on a parliamentary proposal submitted by MP Thamer Al-Swait, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Rashidi made the request after the National Assembly General Services Committee approved of the proposal to waive the bills of houses of registered POWs and martyrs whose bodies have yet to be discovered, and in case none of them have a house of his own, the government will waive the bills of the houses their families live.
In a letter, Al-Rashidi explained the waiver will cover writing off unpaid bills for water, electricity and telephone until Dec 31, 1995 for martyrs, POW and wife or parent, in case of a joint family house.
Meanwhile, concurrently with intentions to grill the Finance Minister Dr Nayef Al-Hajraf, he told the parliamentarians of his plan to issue a decision to suspend the process of selling shares owned by the Public Institution for Social Security (Taminat) in one company if proven the procedure was manipulated, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Speaking to the daily, MP Salah Khorsheed mentioned Dr Al-Hajraf’s decision to suspend the selling of shares in the company in case there is suspicion of manipulation, emphasizing “the cancellation of the process is not questionable, and he is ready to resign from the parliament if proven otherwise.”
MP Khaleel Abdullah also affirmed his intention to grill the finance minister, indicating “we cannot accept and allow violation of public funds, and what transpired in the Public Institution for Social Security is outrageous and deserves questioning.”
MP Khaleel Al-Saleh sees “the exit of Public Institution for Social Security without declaration from one of the companies is dangerous deviance that cost public funds millions, and we will cause the minister to bear political responsibility so as to know that public funds is a redline.”
