Bill seeks new post of Humanitarian Attaché

- By Ahmed Al-Naqeeb

KUWAIT CITY, June 12: Driven by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s humanitarian leadership and Kuwait’s status as International Humanitarian Center, MP Osama Al-Shaheen and a number of his colleagues have presented a bill to amend the law on diplomatic and consular corps to create a new position called ‘Humanitarian Attaché’.

Al-Shaheen said the amendment stipulates that the State should include a ‘Humanitarian Attaché’ to its diplomatic and consular representation abroad to supervise and monitor Kuwait’s humanitarian missions in countries where they are stationed.

Besides Al-Shaheen, other proponents of the bill include MPs Mubarak Al-Hajraf, Abdullah Fahaad, Ali AlDuqbasi and Jamaan Al-Harbash.

On the other hand, MP Faisal Al-Kandari submitted a proposal to amend some articles of the Social Security Law promulgated through Amiri Decree No. 61 of the year 1976 in order to include medical emergency response in the ‘strenuous jobs’ category stipulated in the law.

He explained citizens engaged in jobs categorized as strenuous by the law are entitled to indemnity after being registered and working for 20 years. Employees with

strenuous jobs include firefighters, officers at the National Guard and Ministry of Interior, as well as engineers in the Ministry of Oil.

He pointed out some employees engaged in jobs regarded as strenuous are not covered by the law such as paramedics and ambulance drivers. He argued it is unfair not to grant such a privilege to these employees, because they work as hard as the officers, firefighters and engineers.
