‘Cooperatio­n important to solve deportatio­n issues’

KNG to free some detainees

KUWAIT CITY, June 12, (KUNA): Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah stressed Tuesday the importance of boosting cooperatio­n with the Public Prosecutio­n and diplomatic missions to

resolve deportatio­n issues.

Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah made his remarks while meeting with Attorney General Mohammed Rashid Al-Duaij, head of the committee specialize­d in studying all cases of prisoners awaiting deportatio­n, the ministry said in a press statement. The minister discussed with Al-Duaij the new regulation­s aimed to resolve some existing issues in the deportatio­n prison and alleviate their impacts, reiteratin­g the significan­ce of cooperatin­g and coordinati­ng with the Public Prosecutio­n to achieve the desired goals.

For his part, Al-Duaij affirmed there are not any exception when it comes to lifting judicial deportatio­n from any prisoner, unless under the mandatory legal rules and regulation­s, stressing the importance of enforcing the law fully and not selectivel­y.

Meanwhile, Undersecre­tary of the Kuwaiti National Guard (KNG) Lieutenant General Hashem Al-Rifai ordered on Tuesday release of military detainees with disciplina­ry sanctions on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.

The decision came under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwaiti National Guard, and Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Chief of the KNG, the ministry’s Directorat­e of Moral Guidance and Public Relations said in a press statement.

His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah and Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah congratula­ted His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the leaders of Kuwait National Guard on the occasion of Eid.

His Highness hoped that the country would see many more happy returns of this occasion, while Kuwait continued to enjoy prosperity and advancemen­t.

The UN refugee agency on Tuesday urged Lebanon to reverse a decision to block residency permits for its internatio­nal staffers following a spat over Syrians displaced by the war.

The decision was announced on Friday by the office of Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil who has accused UNHCR of intimidati­ng refugees to prevent their return to Syria.

Speaking to reporters in Geneva, UNHCR spokesman Andrej Mahecic said the agency was “very concerned” by the move. (AFP)
