SAB hails efficiency of MoH in providing services to residents
‘Ministry’s manpower up by 19 pc’
KUWAIT CITY, June 13: The State Audit Bureau (SAB) has lauded the efficiency of the Ministry of Health in providing services to citizens and expatriates, reports Al-Rai daily.
In its recent report, SAB said Kuwait improved in certain fields according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The report disclosed that Kuwait is first among GCC countries in the number of mother deaths – four per 100,000; while it is second in the number of newborn deaths (below five years old).
The number of beds increased by nine percent, the period of occupying beds decreased by four percent, the shifting of beds declined by six percent, and the period of bed vacancy increased by 15 percent.
The ministry’s manpower increased by 19 percent, 11 percent for administrative employees, 45 percent for dentists, 34 percent for doctors, 32 percent for pharmacists and 18 percent for nurses.
The budget allocated for medical services increased by 59 percent in 2014 compared to that of 2010, 14 percent for specialized and public hospitals, six percent for medical centers, eight percent for dental clinics, six percent for pediatrics centers and three percent for diabetes centers.
The number of medical checkups for expatriate workers increased by 43 percent in 2014 compared to 2010.
Meanwhile, the bureau recorded shortcomings in the medical construction field due to lack of focus on precautionary medical care to prevent the negative effects of chronic diseases and inflections.
The report revealed that the number of precautionary medical centers reduced by 50 percent in 2014 compared to 2010.
The bureau asked the ministry to take the necessary procedures in order to upgrade its information system through the formation of a team consisting of representatives from different health districts, establish an integrated medical information system.
It also instructed the ministry to reduce the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents and serious ailments.
