Overheard in the Souk the grapevine

-

It’s scorching hot in Kuwait these days. So hot that it can even cause fire in some buildings due to power overload in some old buildings wherein most of the electrical wirings have weathered through time. Just like what happened to one of the buildings where my friend has been residing in.

They were just awakened by a heavy knock on the their door and to their shock it was a fireman telling them to vacate their flat immediately as the flat on the upper floor was burning due to electrical circuit. Thank God, no one was injured from the fire. Thank too to the quick response of the fire department. What if SOS call was sent late? Building owners should always look into the condition of their building especially during summer time to prevent any disaster from happening.

The big weekend is upon us. We have not just Eid celebrations to look forward to but also the greatest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup.

Football fever is palpable in Kuwait, with zealous fans engaging in passionate conversations and emotional predictions.

A forecast based on data mining, machine learning and econometrics has tipped Brazil to lift the cup. But can numbers overcome the beautiful, unpredictable nature of the game? Can passion on the field disrupt statistical models and data structures? We’ll have to consult the octopus.

“Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me”… so the song goes.

The historic summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was greeted with cheers.

However, several experts said the summit failed to secure any concrete commitments by Pyongyang for dismantling its nuclear arsenal.

I salute the move of these two leaders. It’s a good start. Let us hope and pray that peace may reign above personal agenda.
