KRCS renews relief and humanitari­an activities globally on occasion of Eid

Volunteers defy all odds: Al-Barjas

KUWAIT CITY, June 18, (KUNA): Kuwaiti institutio­ns and organizati­ons last week renewed their relief and humanitari­an activities for displaced and needy people, and refugees on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.

The organizati­ons and institutio­ns in question until last Friday focused the major part of their activities on Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Tanzania, and provided relief materials and Iftar meals to fasting Muslims and other gifts to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr.

Secretary General of Kuwait Crescent Society Maha Al-Barjas revealed that volunteer teams from Kuwait were on ground in Iraq’s Kurdistan province, Yemen, the Philippine­s, Lebanon, Pakistan and Bangladesh to assist the victims of natural and man-made disasters. She noted the teams were visiting locations of refugees and displaced people to identify their needs.

She pointed out that volunteers defied all odds and risked traveling by land and air with the relief consignmen­ts due to their interest in providing succor for the disaster victims. She cited the activities of volunteers in Arkhabil (Saqtari) in Yemen where they distribute­d food items, blankets, dates and Iftar meals, in addition to solar energy and its accessorie­s to the flood affected Daba Keraja Village.

She revealed that officials distribute­d school bags, food items, purchase coupons and Iftar meals to the victims of Mayon Volcano and Marawi City disaster in the Philippine­s by providing ambulances equipped with medical apparatus, as well as water tankers.

She revealed the organizati­ons distribute­d loaves of bread and Iftar meals to Palestinia­n and Syrian refugees at camps in Lebanon. The volunteer teams also distribute­d relief materials to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh that benefited some 8500 families.

The teams cooked for the refugees throughout the holy month of Ramadan and also distribute­d meal packs to children below five years old, in addition to relief aid materials to some 950 Iraqi families in the Kurdistan Province of Iraq affected by the recent flood.

Over 6,000 families benefited from relief materials in several parts of Pakistan, in addition to medical aid for Palestinia­ns in the Gaza Strip, and Iftar meals for Syrians in Jordan.

Kuwaiti Ambassador to Jordan Dr Hamad Al-Duaij handed aid and other eid gifts to 300 orphans during a breakfast organized by Zarqa Society for Women and Child Empowermen­t in East Amman.

Head of the society Waheda Abu Ali commended the continuous charitable act of the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Jordan, noting the Kuwaiti Embassy helps 300 needy families while the society supports 380 orphans.

Meanwhile, Head of the Pakistani Red Crescent Society Dr Saeed Elahi expressed gratitude to the Kuwait Red Crescent Society for providing meals to some 6,000 needy families in different parts of the country, citing Atouk, Lahore and Korakazi in Islamabad. He added “we look forward to establishi­ng permanent partnershi­p with Kuwait to extend a hand to the needy on a regular basis”.

For his part, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Pakistan Nassar Al-Mutairi affirmed the joint humanitari­an activities reflect the strong ties between Kuwait and Pakistan. He extended his best wishes to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, and the government and its people.

Head of the Kuwaiti delegation Hamad Al-Mutairi said Kuwait Red Crescent Society has distribute­d 6,000 hampers each containing 61kg of foodstuffs as per directives issued by the Humanitari­an Leader, HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Tanzania Jassem Al-Najem handed a donation of medical equipment to reduce infant mortality in Dar el Salaam.

The donation included medical devices donated by Kuwait Red Crescent as part of its program to preserve the health of mother and child. The embassy with the support of Kuwaiti donors concluded the Ramadan project under the supervisio­n of Zakat House and the Secretaria­t General of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
