900m kg food imported

KUWAIT CITY, June 18: Public Relations and Security Media Department in the Ministry of Interior announced that 409 reconcilia­tion notes relating to traffic incidents have been recorded at police stations affiliated to the Capital Security Command since Article 42 of the traffic act was activated this month.

Statement added the person found liable must pay KD 20 to traffic sector and send the reconcilia­tion note to the insurance company accompanie­d by the other party who’ll receive compensati­on, adding this procedure does not require sending documents to court and it’s accomplish­ed within a short time.

It noted implementa­tion of the above-stated Article is in accordance with directives from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah to facilitate the procedures for citizens and expatriate­s while dealing with minor traffic incidents.

The department added activation of Article 42 will yield positive results in terms of saving time and efforts of securityme­n, while facilitati­ng procedures for the parties involved in accident.

In case the parties do not agree to reconcile during a minor traffic incident, their cars must be removed from the main road to the right shoulder pending the arrival of patrolmen, and “if the parties desist from removing their cars from the road, violations will be issued against them for obstructio­n, according to Article 133 of the executive decree of traffic law reformed by the ministeria­l decision no. 2934/2016.”

Food imports:

Al-Jarrah

The land borders and ports authority affirmed that Kuwait has since the first quarter of the year imported 900 million kilograms of foodstuffs, reports Al-Rai daily.

As per statistics of the General Customs Administra­tion 168,320 kg of food was imported within the first quarter of this year compared to 157,956 in the same period last year.

Director General of Customs Jamal Al-Jalawi affirmed the significan­t role the sector plays in the developmen­t of national economy by making facilities accessible to investors, including importers and exporters. He explained that customs sector is considered an important source of income to the State, besides its outstandin­g position in preserving the national security by thwarting smuggling.

He pointed out that customs sector exerts tremendous efforts in fulfilling the Amiri desire of transformi­ng Kuwait to an internatio­nal commercial and financial hub through simplifyin­g customs procedures and observing accurate methods of inspection and monitoring.

He noted a total of 898,735,647 kilograms of foodstuff has been imported since the first quarter of the year, indicating 352,045 kilograms was imported via land and 17,912,495 kilograms via air. He added Doha Port received 46,912,412 kilograms of foodstuff and Salmi borders 96,595,654 kilograms, while the public stores of Marine sector received 2,25,2541 kilograms, and stores of the freight unit received 7,740 kilograms of foodstuff.

Al-Jalawi reiterated 133,604,577 kilograms of foodstuff was received via the western port and 484,825,525 kilograms through the northern port. He added Nuwaiseeb Port received 88,220,233 kilograms of foodstuff and Hateen center 1,014 kilograms, Sadeeq center 70 kilograms, while vegetables and fruits market received 28,051,341 kilograms of foodstuff.

He added Shuwaikh Port recorded a total of 66,979 incoming and 17,187 departing containers, and 49 containers have since been sold or referred to the Finance House. Also, customs officers seized 15,756 bottles of alcohol, in addition to 60,000 packets of chewing tobacco.
