Legal loopholes draw youths to drugs sold in coops, malls

Ministry of Interior’s Acting Undersecre­tary Lieutenant General Essam Al-Nahham visited Al-Abdali border post on Sunday.

The visit came in implementa­tion of directives of Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah, according to a press statement by the Ministry’s Public Relations and Security Media Department.

Al-Nahham conveyed Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah’s greetings to all personnel and employees at the ministry, as part of spreading the spirit of one family and increasing interactio­n and strengthen bonds among the Ministry’s staff and employees, the statement said.

Al-Nahham toured the post and inspected action mechanisms through the newly installed state-of-the-art technology cameras. He also examined the restoratio­n of military men’s housing units as well as the expansion made at the post. (KUNA)

KUWAIT CITY, June 18: About 20 psychotrop­ic substances which are being promoted by drugs dealers and sold over the counter in cooperativ­e societies commercial centers are being abused by youth taking advantage of the legal loophole, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The daily added, those who consume these substances cannot be punished because they are not on the list of drugs banned by law.

According to security sources ‘addicts’ have shifted to these drugs after meth was classified as a narcotic substance.

Sources say meetings are held by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Health and personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department to include these substances on the list of drugs which are banned by law.

It is also reported attempts are underway to prevent the entry of such drugs into the country and withdraw them from the shelves of cooperativ­e societies and commercial malls.

The Home Employment Department upon instructio­ns from the Director-General of the General Department for Residence Affairs facilitate­d the departure of 700 Filipino domestic workers between May 12, 2018 and just a few days before the Eid-Al-Fitr, reports Al-Anba daily quoting security sources.

The daily said, these workers were involved in some ‘misunderst­andings’ with their employers and had shown their desire to return home.

The daily added the department after completing all procedures, ensured there were no cases against them and also made sure that all their financial dues were settled.

Lover’s revenge:

Police have arrested a young Kuwaiti woman for damaging a car which was in the parking lot of a hotel, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily added, the woman called the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry and complained that the youth had vandalized a parked car.
