KUWAIT CITY, June 18: A number of Bedoun students urged Minister of Education and Higher Education and Head of the Higher Council of Kuwait University Dr Hamid Al-Azmi to equate them with the foreign students in terms of admission to the College of Higher Studies, reports Al-Rai daily.

They explained that the quota of foreign students in the College of Higher Studies is 20 percent but that of the Bedoun students is only 5 percent. A large number of them obtained excellent grades when they graduated from Kuwait University but the university does not accept them unless they have 90 percent and above in all specialties. Majority of them are capable of serving the country. While foreign students have the option of completing their studies in their own countries, the same does not apply for Bedoun students, and their chances for completing their education are very limited.

They affirmed that Kuwait University had taken outstanding students among them in the bachelor’s level, so they do not understand why the university does not give them a chance to complete their higher studies in Kuwait University.

Officials from Najat Charitable Society denied the allegations, insisting that the video is not accurate and the society is not at all responsible for what happened.

They explained that some Zakat AlFitr donors had left bags of rice in front of the committee’s office after official working hours when it was closed. The incident happened at 1 am. The society will hold the person who took that video accountable and submit a report to the ministry.
