Ethiopian Embassy marks National Day
KUWAIT CITY, June 21, (KUNA): Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and State Minister for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh has affirmed that the ministry is working towards the establishment of an immigrant workers shelter for men.
The minister made the statement on the sidelines of Ethiopia’s National Day celebration which was organized by the Ethiopian Embassy in Kuwait.
In a press statement, AlSabeeh added that the ministry is looking into relocating the women’s shelter to another place which can accommodate more people and is safer. She affirmed the ministry will accomplish this upon completion of official procedures.
On labor agreements, she said, “The ministry is waiting for Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry and relevant government bodies to accomplish the agreements and procedures to refer it to the Cabinet for approval.”
Al-Sabeeh affirmed that labor agreements between countries differ according to prevailing regulations followed in each country. She pointed out, “After transferring the Domestic Workers Department from the Interior Ministry to the Social Affairs and Labor Ministry, there will be meetings with the Ethiopian ambassador to address issues as soon as possible in the interest of the employees and employers.” Meanwhile, Ethiopian Ambassador to Kuwait Abdul-Aziz Adam expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the State of Kuwait for the support it provides through Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development for projects in Ethiopia valued at $150 million.
Adam lauded diplomatic relations between Ethiopia and Kuwait which started in 1967, confirming both nations share deep and solid relations which date back many years ago. He said his country is very optimistic over this relationship and it is aspiring for further enhancement of relations and brotherhood in a manner that serves both nations.
