‘Salafist Bloc’ needs to rearrange its cards: Wael
KUWAIT CITY, June 21: Head of Ibn Khaldoun Center for Political Studies Dr Wael Al-Hassawi affirmed that the Salafist Bloc needs to rearrange its cards and overcome the shortcomings of the past by pumping new blood and pushing the youths to become leaders of change, reports Al-Anba daily.
In an interview with the daily, Dr Al-Hassawi said the actual practice has proven the failure of the onevote system as it did not address the problems of democratic practice.
He stressed that the proposals of Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad would make a quantum leap, affirming that the composition of the Council of Ministers and the recent parliamentary interpellations confirm and indicate about a new stage.
Dr Al-Hassawi indicated that the government has dealt with the interpellations with coldness, and those interpellations did not move the lawmakers, as they had no lofty objectives that could cause real change, adding that all of them were just a political gimmick.
He explained that no reform can be achieved without a governmental orientation in support of the Parliament, but it is clear that the government sweet-talks the MPs and denies that the Parliament disrupts development.
The structure of the government does not help it in that aspect. Since the dissolution of the 2012 Parliament, the MPs are confused, as they have no plan, no direction, and no leadership. However, the 2012 Parliament had its prestige but was not given a chance to accomplish its goals.
Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) has recommended Khalid Al-Hasoon as member of the Board of Directors of Touristic Enterprises Company (TEC) that is owned by the authority.
Sources said the KIA Board of Directors has, in principle, agreed on the appointment of Al-Hasoon as board chairman of TEC, which will hold its general assembly next month to elect the new board members for the next three years.
Sources added the general assembly will also discuss the financial statement for fiscal 2018, new budget, expenditures and disbursements.
