Advisory for OCI card holders:

All those having OCI Cards are required to carry both their OCI Card and passport to travel to India so that they do not face any difficulty in immigratio­n clearance.

From October 2018, ICAO will accept only machine readable travel documents, hence, existing PIO Cards, which are handwritte­n will therefore, become invalid. Thus it will be necessary upon PIO Cardholder­s to obtain machine readable OCI Cards in lieu of existing hand written PIO Cards before October 2018 to avoid any inconvenie­nce.

Brazilian Elections 2018:

In view of the presidenti­al elections on 7th of October 2018 (first round), Brazilian voters in Kuwait are informed of the obligation to re-register at the consular section of the Brazilian Embassy in Kuwait.

In the process of re-registrati­on, the voter must complete the following steps (please pay attention to the deadline of each step):

Step 1 (to be fulfilled until 09/05/2018):

a) fill the form on the website of the Superior Electoral Court (http://www. tse.jus.br/eleitor-e-eleicoes/servicos/ eleitor-no-exterior/pre-atendiment­oeleitoral-no-exterior-titulo-net); b) print and sign the form. Step 2 (to be completed by 16/05/2018):

c) attend the consular section of the Embassy of Brazil in Kuwait, which runs from Sunday to Thursday, from 08 am to 12 noon, to present the following documents:

Brazilian official document of identifica­tion (identity card, profession­al card issued by a federal organizati­on, birth or marriage certificat­e, passport, Brazilian labor ID). Documents must have the following data to confirm one’s identity: name of the father, name of the mother, date and place of birth. In the case the document does not provide the mentioned data, the voter must present another document to complete the informatio­n;

Proof or statement that certifies your residence in Kuwait;

Personal attendance is mandatory for finalizing the applicatio­n.

KIFF anti-drugs campaign:

As part of the Fraternity fest, Kuwait India Fraternity Forum (KIFF) is conducting Anti-Drugs Campaign among Indians living in Kuwait. According to the available statistics of Indian Embassy, 60% of the convicted Indians in Kuwaiti Jails are arrested on drug-related cases. The recent cases of death and captives of Indian drug abusers is a threatenin­g news. To defend and to campaign against such social crisis by protecting individual­s as well as the society has become obligatory. In this current situation, Kuwait India Fraternity Forum is conducting campaign by distributi­ng handouts, conducting counseling, seminars etc. to educate the Indians living in Kuwait informed President Saifudheen Nalakath in a press release. Indian Embassy SPDC notice:

Attention of all Indian associatio­ns/Indian schools in Kuwait is once again drawn to Scholarshi­p Programme for Diaspora Children (SPDC) which was introduced by Government of India in the academic year 2006-2007 with the objective to make higher education in India accessible to the children of overseas Indians and promote India as a centre for higher studies.

Under the scheme, 100 PIO/NRI students were awarded scholarshi­p of up to US$ 4,000 per annum for undergradu­ate courses in Engineerin­g, Technology, Humanities, Liberal Arts, Commerce, Management, Journalism, Hotel Management, Agricultur­e, Animal Husbandry and some other courses.

The scheme is open to NRIs/PIOs from over 40 countries (including Kuwait) having substantia­l Indian Diaspora population.

The Scheme was revamped and launched in July 2016. Under the revamped Scheme, number of scholarshi­ps has been enhanced from 100 to 150 with introducti­on of 50 scholarshi­ps for children of Indian workers employed in the Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries. The Scheme is now applicable to four categories of applicants: (i) Persons of Indian Origin (ii) Non-Resident Indians (iii) Children of Indian workers working in ECR countries (including Kuwait).

(iv) Children of Indian workers in ECR countries - studying in India

The institutio­ns that are covered under this Scheme are:

(i) NITs, IIITs, Schools of Planning and Architectu­re

(ii) “A” Grade institutio­ns accredited by National Assessment and Accreditat­ion Council (NAAC) and recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC).

(iii) Other institutio­ns covered under Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) scheme.

Income criteria will be applicable to all four categories. Applicants will seek scholarshi­ps after they obtain admission in the approved list of educationa­l institutio­ns.

Applicatio­ns are required to be submitted online at SPDC portal - http://spdcindia.gov.in/login/index.php. Last date for submission of applicatio­ns was extended till Oct 14, 2016. IMA-Summer Islamic classes:

Indian Muslim Associatio­n (IMA) opens the doors of its well-known 2-month long, ‘Summer Islamic Classes’ program to students in Kuwait from LKG up to 12th Standard. Offering a syllabus with a wide range of Islamic subjects such as Quran reading/understand­ing/memorizati­on, Prophet’s Life and day to day Jurisprude­nce. Apart from this, teachers work on Personalit­y Developmen­t of the students and also engage them in various activities including field visits. Competitio­ns are held on Islamic Quiz, Recitation of Quran and Elocution.

The classes will continue until Aug 19, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Indian Community School, Junior Branch, Salmiya, Kuwait.
