Kuwaiti architect wins award for best scientific research in IEOM
Al-Otaibi extends achievement to HH the Amir
PARIS, Aug 1, (KUNA): Kuwaiti architect Mishael Al-Otaibi expressed great pride to be able to raise high the name of Kuwait after winning first place for the best scientific research in architecture in the world.
Al-Otaibi, speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday, said his participation among 500 people worldwide at the 2nd IEOM European Conference on Industrial Engineering and Operations Management in Paris came in order to raise high the name of Kuwait in international forums.
He said that the US University of Kansas nominated him to participate in the conference in its name and represent the United States, but he categorically rejected this and insisted on representing Kuwait.
He said that he extended this achievement to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Al-Otaibi said his scientific research presented to the conference aimed at determining the effect of air distribution systems in buildings and the thermal comfort for frequenters and occupants of these buildings based on the height of the ceiling as well as reducing the amount of energy consumption by 40 percent.
Al-Otaibi added that this research contributes to the preservation of the environment by saving energy and reducing the carbon footprint of buildings.
The IEOM Society organised the 2nd European Conference in Paris, France during July 26-27, 2018. The event was held at the IESEG’s Paris Campus, La Defense.
This conference aimed at providing a platform for academics, researchers, scientists and practitioners to exchange ideas and to bridge the gap between the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management theory and its application in solving the most current problems and challenges faced by 21st century organisations.
The Workers Syndicate of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) resorted to the National Assembly to lodge a complaint against a decision taken by KFSD to change the official working hours of remote fire stations such as those in Wafra, Nuwaiseeb and Al-Zour areas, reports Al-Rai daily.
The syndicate called for the intervention of Deputy Premier and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh and Members of Parliament to ensure firefighters who are facing injustice get fair treatment following the issuance of a number of decisions, the latest of which is the change in the official working hours of remote fire stations such as those in Wafra, Nuwaiseeb and Al-Zour areas by KFSD without consulting the syndicates for ensuring public interest.
