KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6: In the swimming competition organized by Youth India Kuwait as a relief from the summer heat, Fahaheel Zone emerged as winners. Farwaniya Zone became the runners-up. The swimming competition which was held at Qadisiya Ultimate Soccer Academy on Friday at 3:30 pm was inaugurated by KIG Acting President Faisal Manjeri. Exciting competitions then took place between swimmers from Farwaniya, Abbasiya, Fahaheel and Salmiya Zones.

Ramshad of the Fahaheel Zone became the champion in 25m free style competition. George Kutty Joseph of Fahaheel Zone and George Joseph of Abbasiya attained the second and third places.

In the 25m backstroke competition, Ramshad of Fahaheel Zone, Muhammad Shafi of Salmiya Zone and Ajins of Farwaniya Zone won the first three places respectively.

In the 4x25 relay competition that followed, Fahaheel, Abbasiya and Farwaniya Zones finished in the first, second and third places respectively.

In the exciting final of the Water Polo competition, Farwaniya Zone defeated Fahaheel Zone for 3-1 goals.

Fahaheel Zone received the overall championship trophy from Youth India President Mehanas Musthafa. The runners-up Farwaniya Zone received the trophy from Youth India Sports Convener Nayeem.

Medals for the individual champions were distributed by Youth India General Secretary Safeer Abu, Secretary Shihabudeen and Treasurer Nihad.

The matches were controlled by Youth India executive members Saleej, Shafi Koyamma, Fawas, Nayeem, Haroon, Shafi N.K. and Nihad.

Sam Saunders, who started the day three off the lead, finished with a round worth minus-1, finishing tied for seventh. Putnam, a 29-year-old from Tacoma, Washington, said he wasn’t exactly “expecting” to win, with his focus on keeping his tour card after his spell on the Web.com tour.

Nevertheless, he had been encouraged by his recent results and had high hopes coming into the tournament played opposite the elite World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio, where the world’s top-ranked players were competing.

In Blaine, Minn, Kenny Perry created more drama than he wanted Sunday in the last 3M Championship.

He closed with a 3-under 69 for a three-stroke victory in the PGA Tour Champions event that is being replaced by the PGA Tour’s 3M Open.

Also the 2014 and 2015 winner at TPC Twin Cities, the 57-year-old Perry matched Hale Irwin’s tournament record of three victories in the final edition of the event that started in 1993 at Bunker Hills.

Perry’s not done at the course where he finished in the top seven in all but one of his eight appearances, saying he’ll participate in the 2019 3M Open. Players in the top-50 PGA Tour career money list — Perry is 26th — can cash in a one-time, season-long exemption to return to the tour after they’ve lost status.

Five shots ahead after rounds of 66 and 60, Perry finished at 21-under 195 to win his 10th senior title and first since the 2017 US Senior Open. He won the last of his 14 PGA Tour titles in 2008.

Following offseason shoulder surgery, Perry’s best finish this season had been fifth at the Insperity Invitational in early May.

He came out flat and mishit many shots.

Back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7 — Perry had one in the first two rounds — coupled with a seventh-hole birdie by Glen Day dropped Perry’s lead to one stroke. Day had a bogey at the par-3 eighth and Perry rolled in a birdie putt at nine, pushing the lead back to three.
