Kuwait & US in joint exercises to counter foreign terror threat

Two get 5-year jail in rape of GCC woman

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 9: The Criminal Court sentenced two young citizens to five-year imprisonme­nt each with hard labor over charges of sexually assaulting a GCC woman in Jabriya area.

Lawyer Muhammad Abbas filed the lawsuit on the behalf of the victim, requesting the payment of temporary civil compensati­on worth KD 5,001 and issuance of maximum penalty against the defendants.

He supported his defense with evidences including a report from Telecommun­ication Tower that proved the two defendants were with the victim at the time of the crime. He also depended on the investigat­ions conducted by Criminal Investigat­ions Department and the report of the General Department for Criminal Evidences.

Joint exercises:

General Department of Public Relations and Security Media at Ministry of Interior disclosed that the military training program titled “Guard who cannot be defeated” kicked off on Thursday, Aug 9, and will continue for ten days, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The department explained that officers from Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense and the National Guard are participat­ing in the training along with 400 soldiers of the American Army.

The training program involves scenarios that facilitate joint response for confrontin­g overseas terrorist attacks. It is aimed at exchanging experience­s among the security and military institutio­ns of Kuwait and friendly countries, and at creating a united and integrated strategic security system that enhances the capability and readiness of the participat­ing bodies. It includes tactical trainings as well as implementa­tion of attack and defense plans.

Meanwhile, the American Embassy in Kuwait revealed in a press statement that 400 American soldiers will join the Kuwaiti forces for participat­ing in the training program, which is based on coordinati­on between the United States General Command and other American bodies and Kuwaiti government.

The embassy affirmed that the training program will be carried out in specific remote sites located throughout Kuwait with limited participat­ion of the headquarte­rs of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.

Miraculous escape:

An Indian had a near-death experience when he was hit by a speeding Kuwaiti motorist in his 20s along Mohammad Bin Qasem Motorway.

A security source said the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry was notified about the incident and a rescue team went to the scene. The victim who sustained serious injuries in the head and foot was rushed to a hospital for treatment while the driver was referred to the area police station for questionin­g.

During investigat­ion, the motorist said the victim appeared on the road suddenly and he couldn’t avoid hitting him. A case was registered.

Meanwhile, a citizen sustained injuries in different parts of his body during a two-vehicle collision along the Sixth Ring Road. A team of paramedics accompanie­d security operatives to the scene after the Operations

Room received report about the incident and dealt with the situation. The wreckage was removed from the road and traffic was organized.

2 held with drugs:

Security operatives from Ahmadi arrested two citizens along Coastal Road in possession of illicit drugs and parapherna­lia. The suspects were referred to the concerned authority for further investigat­ion.

Meanwhile, officers from Hawalli Security Directorat­e nabbed an Egyptian with a piece of hashish and narcotic pills in his keep. He was sent to the concerned authority for necessary action.

650 kilos meat unfit:

An inspection team from the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition recently launched a surprise inspection campaign and shut down shop in Shuwaikh for selling meat unfit for human consumptio­n, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added during the raid 650 kilos of meat was seized.

The inspectors also shut down a well-known restaurant in Mubarakiya in downtown Kuwait City for selling food unfit for human consumptio­n.

It is said the food contained harmful bacteria due to lack of cleanlines­s among restaurant workers.

Ali Hashem Al-Kandari, head of the inspection team said random food samples had earlier been taken from

the restaurant and sent to the Ministry of Health laboratory.

The result showed food was unsuitable for human consumptio­n, so the restaurant was closed and those responsibl­e have been referred to the Public Prosecutio­n.

The team also shut down a kiosk selling juices in the same area.

Wanted man caught:

A Kuwaiti who had been sentenced in absentia for failing to pay KD 178,000 has been arrested and handed over to the Sentences Enforcemen­t Department, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, the suspect was picked early morning on one of the streets of Fahaheel.
