Info minister refutes claims that petty cash was given to foreign organization
Municipal council pushing for car rental allowance
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 11: Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs Muhammad Al-Jabri has denied recent news circulated on social media claiming that petty cash was distributed to several local and foreign organizations and individuals,
reports Al-Qabas daily.
In response to a question from MP Al-Humaidi AlSebai’e, Al-Jabri stressed that circular no. 6/2002 issued by the Ministry of Finance defines petty cash as money given out to a public sector official to cater for miscellaneous items temporarily or permanently inside or outside Kuwait without having to undergo the regular formalities with the aim of facilitating the execution of tasks, indicating petty cash is billed to cover expenses.
Al-Jabri stressed that two individuals named by Al-Sebai’e to have been paid specific sums by the Public Authority for Youth neither received petty cash through bank transfer or handouts. He explained that one of the two individuals was paid KD 750 upon the approval of relevant monitoring bodies while he was serving as a member of a committee that conducted a study on the best way to manage Kuwaiti sport sector as an independent entity.
Al-Jabri answered another question from Al-Sebai’e, saying Public Authority for Youth discovered the Board of Directors of the Shooting Sport Club had approved of the service of a legal consultant to follow up law-related issues and review opinions since Dec 1, 201 without conferring with the authority.
Secretary General of the Municipal Council Yousif AlSaqabi has affirmed they are exerting tremendous efforts to push for approval of the proposed car rental allowance for council members, similar to those working at the National Assembly and Kuwait Municipality, reports Al-Rai daily.
Speaking to the daily, AlSaqabi disclosed the proposed amount of car rental allowance is KD 250 monthly; indicating the allowance, once approved, will be paid retroactively starting from May 22 or on the day of approving the proposal.
