KFSD to secure islands during holidays
KUWAIT CITY, Sept 15: The Maritime Fire Department has laid down an integrated plan to secure islands in the south during official holidays by providing boats and patrols equipped with fire extinguishing and rescue devices, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The plan aims to overcome obstacles faced by firefighters during rescue operations considering the long distance between the maritime fire centers and the islands, as well as the high number of citizens and expatriates visiting the islands during public holidays, hence, the need for an alternative plan which was implemented last Friday.
The plan includes provision of firefighting boats on Kubbar and Umm Al-Maradim Islands, and designation of patrols around the islands during official holidays to ensure immediate firefighting and rescue operations in case of emergency.
In this context, a firefighting boat put the plan in motion on Saturday as it helped a person in a critical condition on board a yacht while on its way back from a mission in Umm AlMaradim Island. The firefighting boat crew attended to the person immediately and then referred him to the emergency team.
Meanwhile, fire broke out in a house in Jahra without causing loss of lives or injuries, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Firefighters, securitymen and paramedics rushed to the location after the Operations Unit at Kuwait Fire Service Directorate received information on the fire incident.
Upon arrival at the scene, the firefighters were grouped into two - one group took charge of the fire out operation while the other handled the rescue operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed the fire started in a pre-fabricated room used as diwaniya on the ground floor. Fire then spread to two vehicles which were parked in front of the house.
A case was registered and investigations are in progress to determine the cause of fire.
