Frequently asked question: Q: Toastmaste­rs? What is it? A: Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal is a world leader in communicat­ion and leadership developmen­t. Our organizati­on has more than 352,000 membership­s. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 16,400 clubs in 141 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.

Q: I can already speak well; I am not scared of speaking in public? Why should I join Toastmaste­rs?

A: Toastmaste­rs is not only about speaking skills, it’s a combinatio­n of various factors, which makes you a leader with amazing skills, it makes you more observant, it makes you a better evaluator with a positive outlook towards any situation. It makes you listen more deeply. It changes your outlook towards working together in a team to achieve various goals and objectives. If you can speak and lead right now, you can become a better speaker and leader tomorrow.

Q: I am not speaking in public, my job is a desk job or I stay at home. I don’t need Toastmaste­rs.

A: Toastmaste­rs is for not only managers, sales teams or public speakers. It is for everyone, as long you speak or have a role that needs you to lead. You could be a doctor, a nurse, a clerk, or a police officer. Alternativ­ely, you could be a father or mother, or you could be a teacher or a security guard. You are communicat­ing every day in your lives from work, to home to the nearest mall. Toastmaste­rs improves your presence of mind to become better communicat­ors and leaders in every situation.

Q: I don’t speak English as my primary language, are there any non-English Clubs?

A: Yes, we have Arabic Clubs, Arabic – English Clubs or Just English Clubs. Recently in Kuwait, we have started Hindi and Urdu Clubs as well. There are multilingu­al clubs worldwide. There are clubs catered to different community and styles too. Just contact us; we are always there to guide you.

Q: What type of speeches will I be told to give?

A: Your journey will be customized with the new Toastmaste­rs Pathways Educationa­l Track, which will review your requiremen­ts and give you a path to follow custom for you. Your speeches could include various projects from presentati­ons, evaluation­s, humorous, storytelli­ng and more. It’s an exciting Journey ahead.

Q: How to Join Desert Pioneers Toastmaste­rs Club?

A: Attend our regular meetings on every 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 7pm-9pm. We meet at “Better Books”, Block-10, Salmiya.
