Young Jordanian held in armed Hawally bank theft; cash found

US citizen caught with drugs, liquor, gun, ammo

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 23: Personnel from the Criminal Investigat­ions Department (CID) have taken into custody in the early hours of the night a young Jordanian, with no criminal past and believed to be in his 20s, in connection with the armed robbery at a Gulf Bank branch, reports Al-Anba daily.

The suspect reportedly escaped with KD 4,500. Security sources said the CID men found the glove used by the suspect at the site of the crime. It is also said he hid part of the stolen money in the apartment of his Filipino girlfriend in Salmiya.

The daily quoting security sources said, the detectives went to the apartment at 9:30 pm where the money was hidden. The daily also said the suspect had spent only KD 250 of the stolen money.

The suspect said that he was observing the movement at the bank for about a week before finally launching the assault.

He added he chose a day when the bank was less crowded. He also said he bought the abaya and niqab from a local market in Nugra to carry out his crime. He also said after committing the crime he dumped the clothing in garbage bin. “The

pistol I used was a mere toy,” he said.

US citizen nabbed:

After taking into custody two US citizens a few days ago - one in Mangaf and the other in Jabriya - for allegedly traffickin­g in drugs, personnel from the Criminal Investigat­ions Department (CID) have arrested one more US citizen from Mangaf, reports Al-Anba daily.

The daily added, CID men have seized from him 13 kilos of marijuana, 11 bottles of imported wine and alcohol, a sensitive scale, a Glock pistol and 42 rounds and three magazines of ammunition.

Earlier the two Americans had admitted to smuggling the drugs through the US Army air cargo. The daily, the third suspect, believed to be 42 years old and identified only as C.D.F., used the same modus operandi.

Acting on informatio­n and after taking all necessary legal measures, the CID men raided the home of the American in Mangaf and seized the contraband.

During interrogat­ion the man admitted to traffickin­g and also said his US citizenshi­p will provide him cover from the Kuwaiti security authoritie­s.

The Assistant Undersecre­tary for Criminal Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior has ordered the man to be referred to the Public Prosecutio­n.

Smuggling bid

Customs officers at the Nuwaiseeb border post have thwarted the attempt of an unidentifi­ed passenger to smuggle cigarettes packs to a neighborin­g country, reports Al-Anba daily.

Officers have discovered a new means of smuggling after cigarettes packs were found hidden in packs of flour manufactur­ed by the Kuwait Flour Mills & Bakeries Company.

According to a customs source, customs officers suspected a vehicle loaded with flour from the Kuwait Flour Mills Company, examined the bags that came out of the factory for sale and seized packs hidden inside.

The contraband and the smuggler have been referred to the authoritie­s. In the meantime investigat­ions are on how the packs were hidden inside the packs of flour.

Meanwhile, Customs officers at the Nuwaiseeb border post also foiled two attempts of Saudi men to smuggle out of the country 134 cartons of cigarettes, reports Annahar daily.

The daily quoting sources said 54 cartons were found hidden under the the back seat of one of the vehicles and 80 cartons in the trunk of the other car.

The contraband and the suspects have been referred to the authoritie­s.

Pickpocket woman:

Police are looking for an elegant woman for stealing a wallet containing KD 400 and identifica­tion papers from Egyptian juice seller, reports Al-Rai daily.

Earlier, the Egyptian claimed he was given a scented tissue to wipe out his sweat when he was inside an elevator and he immediatel­y became unconsciou­s after using it. The story did not convince the police and the Egyptian was referred for in-depth interrogat­ion.
