Air traffic normal at airport despite dusty weather: DGCA

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 23, (KUNA): Air traffic at Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport is normal despite the dust storm hitting the country, Directorat­e General of Civil Aviation said Saturday.

Flights to and from the airport are ongoing and have not been affected by the current weather conditions, Eng Emad Al-Sanousi, Director of the DGCA’s Department of Air Traffic, told KUNA.

Current visibility level at Kuwait Airport allows takeoffs and landings in compliancy with the airport standards, Al-Sanousi added.

Meanwhile, dust caused by northweste­rn winds from Iraq, had resulted in low visibility in some areas, said a Kuwaiti meteorolog­ist Saturday.

The dust has reduced horizontal vision to less than 1,000 meters and it is moving towards inner residentia­l areas, indicated Abdulaziz Al-Qarawi.

Improve

The meteorolog­ist affirmed that weather conditions would improve in the few upcoming hours.

Furthermor­e Sea navigation at Shuaiba, Doha and Shuwaikh ports has not been affected by the dust storm which is currently hitting the country, Kuwait Port Authority (KPA) said on Saturday.

Navigation is going on normally at Shuwaikh Port and technical teams are monitoring weather conditions, Bader Al-Enzi, head of operation at the port, told KUNA.

Navigation will be suspended immediatel­y if necessity arises, he noted.

Meanwhile, Directorat­e General of Civil Aviation said that navigation at Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport is normal, despite witnessed dust in the country.

Earlier in the day, Meteorolog­ical Department said that dust, caused by northweste­rn winds from Iraq, led to low visibility in some areas in the country.

The dust lessened horizontal vision to less than 1,000 meters, with northweste­rly winds, it added, noting that dust is moving towards inner residentia­l areas. National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim received Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Authority Abdulrahma­n Al-Nemsh and later the Chairman presented the speaker with the bi-annual report about the authority tasks in 2017. Kuwait’s Permanent Representa­tive to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi addressing the Security Council.
