DAI Cultural Season
THE Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah’s 24th Cultural Season, which opens on 24 September, is back and bold. This season is overflowing with fascinating lectures, dynamic concerts, challenging courses for adults, and a wide variety of programmes for children. Again this year, the lectures and concerts are free and open to the entire community – making the Dar al-Athar al-Islamiyyah (DAI) a fabulous resource for entertainment, education and enlightenment.
“We just received the programme from the printer the other day and I was a bit surprised by how rich it is with fun, cultural activities,” said Dalal Alfadhli, DAI’s director of cultural and science resources. “We’ve been working on it for months, but seeing the entire calendar of events in one document: 27 lectures by some of the most noted experts from leading academic and cultural institutions, 34 concerts featuring exceptional musicians from the worlds of traditional music, classical music, jazz and more, 12 courses for adults on subjects from the aesthetics of prayer to conservation, and dozens of activities for childen from ages 4 months through high school. Really, knowing what’s happening at the DAI this season is exciting.”
The first week’s schedule features the annual Tareq Rajab Museum Lecture on Monday, 24 September at 7 pm at the Yarmouk Cultural Centre. Dr Ziad Rajab will speak on Islamic Chinese Calligraphy in the Tareq Rajab Museum of Islamic Calligraphy. His lecture, and the Q & A that follows, will last until 8 pm, after which beverages and sweets will be served. On Wednesday evening, 26 September, at 7 pm at the Yarmouk Cultural Centre, the Bin Hussein Band will launch the annual concert series. The Bin Hussein Band is one of Kuwait’s premeire traditional bands and performs with energy that’s infectious.
“Cultural Season 24 offers a wide variety of opportunities to learn about new ideas and different cultures. It also provides chances to enjoy the familiar – be it music, concepts or history. I hope that people will take full advantages of the programme. In fact, I personally invite them to,” Alfadhli concluded.
