Saudi academic, KUNA’s editor-in-chief discuss enhancing media cooperatio­n

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 25, (KUNA): Editor-in-Chief of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Saad Al-Ali and Saudi Arabia media official and Principal of UNESCO Research Chair of Dialogue Abdullah AlRifai discussed boosting media cooperatio­n on Tuesday.

Al-Rifai who visited KUNA, accompanie­d by Professor at Kuwait University’s Media Department Dr Munawer Al-Rajhi, stressed on the need to boost media work and skills in the Arab world.

He added that media has become the first defense line, while it also leads and shapes societies.

Al-Rifai noted that strong media is based on academic and field experience to enable journalist­s to report transparen­t adequate news in the shortest time possible.

He said that he is working with Kuwait University to launch a Master’s degree program in media.

On his part, Dr Al-Rajhi hailed KUNA’s neutral stance in covering news, and its efforts to boost the skills of journalist­s through organizing continuous training courses.

He also spoke of the cooperatio­n between KUNA and the university in training college students on media skills, adding that four batches of students have already graduated from these programs while the fifth batch will graduate next week.

Meanwhile, Saad Al-Ali said that paper media is facing a big challenge from digital media, which does not usually provide accurate or transparen­t informatio­n.
