MPW focusing on projects in northern part of Kuwait

PART affirms full readiness for rainy season

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30, (KUNA) :Ministry of Public Works (MPW) said on Sunday that it is focusing on projects in the northern region of Kuwait such as Boubyan Island and AlHarir City’s developmen­t project.

Spokesman of the Ministry Abdulmuhse­n Al-Enizi told KUNA that the northern region’s developmen­t project includes linking Boubyan Island to Subiya area, adding that the whole project is part of Kuwait’s 2035 Vision.

Sheikh Jaber Bridge, which will link Kuwait City to areas in the north of the country over Kuwait Bay, is also one of the main components of the state developmen­t project, he said.

Boubyan Island and Al-Harir City’s developmen­t project will be at a total cost of KD 30 billion (approximat­ely $100 billion).

Meanwhile Public Authority for Roads and Transporta­tion (PART) affirmed on Sunday full readiness for the rainy season this year.

Director-General of PART Ahmed Al-Hassan said to KUNA, the authority is ready for the rainy season and there will be regular inspection visits to check up the readiness of rainwater pumps, stressing that he will personally start an inspection tour this evening.

Al-Hassan noted that the capacity of one pump is 225 liters per second and this indicates the high performanc­e of the pumps.

There is a contingenc­y plan for closing the tunnels, if necessary, that will be adopted soon, he added.

The Director-General pointed out that there is a cooperatio­n between PART, General Directorat­e of Traffic and Civil Defense to ensure the safety of road users.
