Initiative of empowering women reflects Kuwait’s SDGs: Al-Sabeeh
Ceremony held to mark global Women Empowerment Initiative
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 2, (KUNA): Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh stressed Monday on the importance of empowering women’s initiative in the private sector.
In a ceremony marking global Women Empowerment Initiative, Al-Sabeeh said, in a statement to press, that such move would also reflect on Kuwait’s efforts to meet Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and would encourage work environment, and women leadership capabilities and equality.
The minister also hailed Kuwaiti women role in the private and government sectors as a model in the region, adding they are looking forward to more leadership positions to Kuwaiti women in various sectors in the state.
Al-Sabeeh noted that the initiative also comes within the framework of the strategic plan between the Center for Women’s Studies and Research at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Kuwait University, the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, and the United Nations Development Program, including United Nations Commission for the Empowerment of Women.
The minister revealed that five companies joined the initiative this evening to increase the number of women leaders and to empower them into leading positions, adding that the initiative includes experts and specialists working through workshops and programs aimed at empowering Kuwaiti women.
For his part, Deputy Director of Kuwait University for Academic Support Services Jassem Al-Kanderi said the launching of the initiative in the Private Sector aims at achieving Kuwait’s vision and integrating women into the private sector and supporting gender equality in different sectors.
Al-Kanderi added that this initiative was first launched in 2010 by the United Nations organizations to support and empower women in a number of countries, praising the role of the Center for Women’s Studies and Research in the Faculty of Social Sciences to embrace this initiative for the third year in Kuwait.
Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor revealed that many cooperative societies have submitted a request to name their buildings and branches after Kuwaiti dignitaries, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In a letter sent to Kuwait Municipality, Director of Department of Cooperative Affairs Development in Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Hayam Al-Khudair urged the need to respond to these requests, stressing that the department received a letter from Farwaniya Cooperative Society to name the central market after the late Abbas Habib Munawer.
It is worth mentioning that the Cabinet suspended the naming of streets until a new bylaw is in place to regulate this matter.
