Health ministry to host 4th joint GCC states meet today
KTS celebrates Int’l Translation Day
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6, (KUNA): The Ministry of Health is to host the fourth joint meeting of the specialized work team of Gulf health ministries on Sunday.
.The meeting will mainly follow a number of important recommendations related to implementing procedures of the 2005 international health
regulations aimed to boost world health security, Al-Bader said.
The participants would also study the early warning system and the status of the general framework for the fast response scheme designed for the general health emergency, he added. The early alarm system is quite similar to World Health Organization’s surveillance system, which informs health bodies about any incoming danger threatening general health, Al-Bader noted, adding an immediate investigation would be filed to check on the severity level of the situation, and is to be followed by a fast response action.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia’s health ministry has established a Gulf center specialized in managing emergency cases and early warning system, he noted, adding a representative from the Saudi ministry will be present at the meeting to highlight latest updates on the center.
Al-Bader mentioned that WHO has setup the general framework for the fast response scheme designed for general health emergency, adding that Kuwait and several other countries began to adopt WHO’s framework.
Meanwhile, Kuwait Translators Society (KTS) held its second annual forum at Dr Suad Al-Sabah Theater on Thursday as part of celebrations to mark the International Translation Day.
The forum, themed “translation enriches cultural heritage at changing world,” gathered dozens of intellectuals and academics who reviewed the contributions of KTS to the translation movement in the Arab world.
Speakers at the event included KTS Secretary Dr Dhiya Brusly who appreciated KTS Secretary-General Talal Al-Romeidhy’s support to the Society, associate professor of philosophy at Kuwait University Dr Abdullah Al-Jasmi, and associate professor of translation at KU Faculty of Arts Dr Mohammad bin Nasser.
KTS President Dr Tareq FakhrEddin reviewed his experiment in compiling and publishing a range of articles relating to the study of translation and the challenges facing Arab translators.
The International Translation Day is celebrated on September 30, the death anniversary of St Jerome (347-420 AD) who translated most of the Bible into Latin and is considered the patron saint of translators.
In another development, Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry have issued 1,226 commercial licenses in September for companies through its one-stop shop for business licensing and registration services, spokesperson of the ministry announced Saturday.
The ministry have issued 1,176 partnership licenses, 17 free microenterprise licenses and 33 vending vehicle licenses.
