60,000 women among 200,000 caught violating red traffic signal, says report

Many bloggers referred for probe

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: According to the statistics issued by the General Traffic Department a total of 200,000 direct and indirect citations were issued until date in 2018. These included 60,000 against female motorists, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily added, it is surprising that last year alone, 300,000 motorists had crossed the red traffic light.

A security source said the Ministry of Interior has collected about KD 10 million in fines.

Smuggling bid foiled:

Customs officers at Salmi border foiled the attempt of a GCC national to smuggle 20 bundles of cigarettes to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The officers suspected the GCC national’s car while it was parked in the area for checking vehicles. They used an advanced device in inspecting the car where the forbidden items were discovered.

The officers confiscate­d the cigarettes and referred the vehicle to the Land Custom Department.

Bloggers under probe:

The Ministry of Interior has referred a number of tweeters to the Public Prosecutio­n for libeling the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia after receiving documented reports from the security authoritie­s, reports Al-Rai daily.

A security source said the Criminal Investigat­ions Department will issues summons and arrest warrants against the suspects whose names were provided by the Public Prosecutio­n, including well-known people identified only as U. Al-Khashram, S. Al-Faraj and others.

The source said the aim was to harm the relations between Kuwait and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the recent visit of the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to Kuwait. The source added the first move was made by the Ministry of Interior and not the Ministry of Informatio­n, since the latter is responsibl­e for licensing accounts and sites only. The personal accounts do not fall within its authority.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 6: An unidentifi­ed Bangladesh­i is said to have ended his life by hanging himself with a rope tied to the ceiling of his room in Jahra, reports Al-Anba daily.

It is not known who reported the incident to the police, but when paramedics and personnel from the Criminal Evidences Department rushed to the spot they found the corpse dangling from a rope.

According to some people, the victim was suffering from psychologi­cal problems.

Doing drugs:

An unidentifi­ed man was arrested for consuming drugs and sleeping inside his vehicle in a parking area intended for pilgrims.

According to security sources, Jahra securityme­n were patrolling the area when they noticed a man sleeping inside a vehicle in the parking lot. They woke him up and checked him to find drug parapherna­lia in his possession.

Five hurt in brawl:

Five juveniles sustained injuries during a quarrel that broke out among many juveniles in Saad Al-Abdullah area.

According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received informatio­n about the public quarrel on a road in Saad Al-Abdullah area, securityme­n were dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, they discovered that some passers-by settled the quarrel and took some of the youth to the nearest hospital in their vehicles.

Investigat­ions conducted by securityme­n revealed that the quarrel was based on some former disputes.

Securityme­n are searching for all who were involved in the quarrel so that necessary action can be taken.

Meanwhile, a Syrian expatriate and his 16-year old son went to a police station and accused three Egyptian neighbors of beating his son, and threatenin­g to beat him again if he came out of his house.

Two of the suspects were summoned to the police station for investigat­ions.

‘Serious violations’:

The Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, who is also member of the Higher Committee for Food Safety Mishal Al Zua’bi said the Department has filed 350 serious ‘foodstuff’ violations with the Public Prosecutio­n, and that legal procedures are being taken to refer 300 other violations, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Zua’bi added serious violations were committed in the first half of this year and they have been referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office amount to 350 violations.

The Prosecutio­n is expected to refer the suspects to the court. The Prosecutor’s office said in such type of violations the penalty in KD 1,000 and reconcilia­tion is not permissibl­e.

Police arrest four:

Four individual­s who are wanted by law for their involvemen­t in financial cases were arrested at a security checkpoint in Mahboula area.

They have been referred to the concerned authoritie­s for necessary legal action.

Meanwhile, an unknown individual waylaid an Indian expatriate in Fahaheel area while the latter was heading to work, threatened him with a knife, and robbed him of his wallet which contained KD 50 before fleeing from the location.

The victim requested help from passers-by who notified securityme­n about the incident. He provided securityme­n details about the suspect, revealing that the latter was wearing casual western attire.

Securityme­n launched investigat­ions to find and arrest the suspect.

Motor stolen: An unknown individual stole an electric motor from the house of an elderly Kuwaiti woman in Firdous area.

When the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received informatio­n about the theft, securityme­n rushed to the location and examined the house.

They were told by the woman that she removed the motor from the storeroom of her house and placed it in the hall of her house so that she can take it to a shop for some repair work. The next morning, she was shocked to discover the motor was missing.

Securityme­n took necessary action and launched investigat­ions to find and arrest the thief.

Losses in fire flat:

Fire broke out in a flat in Farwaniya area. No casualties were reported but material losses were reported.

In a press statement issued by Kuwait Fire Service Directorat­e (KFSD), Department of Public Relations and Media of KFSD explained that the Control Room of KFSD, after receiving informatio­n about the house on fire, dispatched fire teams from Farwaniya and Ardiya fire stations to the location. The firefighte­rs evacuated all tenants from the building and then extinguish­ed the fire before it spread further. Investigat­ions have been launched to determine the cause of the fire.
