The Scientific Center of Kuwait launches ‘Space Month 2018 – Explore Infinity’
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10: Coinciding with World Space Week celebrating all things space, The Scientific Center of Kuwait (TSCK), the state’s leading source of scientific “edutainment”, announced the launch of ‘Space Month 2018 – Explore Infinity’. Taking place from October 4 to November 4, the center’s latest science initiative is a space program comprising a full month of fun activities and special presentations that aim to inspire children and youth through the wonders of space and stars. The program also aims at encouraging them to look at science as a great career and educational path, and a fun yet important field that impacts their lives and the world around them.
In a word from the Marketing and Communications Department Manager, Khaled Al-Ramly, said: “The Scientific Center strives to introduce new themes to the public on a regular basis, so that people can continue to learn about science in new ways throughout the year. ‘Space Month 2018 – Explore Infinity’ will allow visitors to learn from various displays and exhibits about stars, galaxies, celestial bodies, our solar system, as well as renowned Arab astronomers in history. In addition to the daily activities, every weekend during our Space Month will feature a special event related to space”.
Learning
Al-Ramly added saying: “Stemming from our belief that learning works best through hands-on experience and edutainment, TSCK organized a plethora of different workshops with different themes running throughout ‘Space Month 2018’. Each workshop presents an excitingly unique hands-on experience for children of ages 4 to12.”
‘Space Month 2018’ will feature daily ‘Make it & Take It’ workshops, where kids can create and keep their own Galaxy Dough, which comes in a jar full of stars and much more. Weekends-only workshops (Thursday to Saturday) will include ‘Design and Launch Your Rocket’, where children can explore the principles of rocketry and its development over the years, and this weekend, Kuwaiti student Nasser Ashkanani, will be joining the workshop for more rocket fun with the children.
Additionally, TSCK will be running ‘Do Aliens Exist’ and ‘My Solar System’ workshops during weekends only, in addition to ‘Explore the Universe’ workshop, which allows children to learn how astronomers use tools for finding and observing craters, and enjoy activities that help them understand the life cycle of a star and the difference between stars and planets. The workshops also aim to introduce children and youth to geological processes on planets, moons and asteroids.
During ‘Space Month 2018 , TSCK’s exclusive IMAX theater – housing the largest screens in Kuwait – will feature its biggest hits such as “A Beautiful Planet”, which explores the beauty of Earth from the view of the International Space Station. Also, a limited screening of Matthew McConaughey’s international hit “Interstellar” will be available exclusively on TSCK’s IMAX laser projection, running every day from October 18 to 20at 7:30 pm.

Other weekly activities will include an exclusive meet-n-greet with Emirati prodigy Alia Al Mansoori, who was only 15 years old when she witnessed her award-winning science experiment at “Genes In Space”, launch into the cosmos aboard Falcon 9 at the Kennedy Space Center. Children and adults alike can learn from this inspiring youth’s partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at a special talk which will take place on October 12 at 7:30 pm at the IMAX theater.
Elaborating further on weekend events, Al-Ramly stated: “As part of the KFAS book initiative, TSCK will be exclusively launching “Professor Astro Cat’s Solar System” - written by Dr Dominic Walliman and Ben Newman - and translated into Arabic.
