KUWAIT CITY, Oct 10, (KUNA): Kuwait Ministry of Health (MoH) started inspection campaigns of government and private health facilities to check expiration of medicine and cosmetic materials, in order to make sure they were safe for human beings, an MoH official said Tuesday.
The campaigns are in line with Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Bassel Al-Sabah’s decision to ban sale of drugs, food additives and cosmetic materials which would expire in less than 30 days.
Officials from the Medicine and Food Monitoring Department will be inspecting government health facilities, cooperative societies and stores selling food additives, Dr Abdullah AlBader, MoH Assistant Undersecretary for Medicine and Food Monitoring, told KUNA.
He was speaking on sidelines of a committee meeting discussing classification and registration of medical specialties in GCC countries.
In another development, Kuwait’s voluntary team ‘Shefaa’ provided on Wednesday medical care to more than 200 Syrian patients, conducting difficult and delicate surgical procedures during a humanitarian trip to refugee camps in Jordan.
Media coordinator for the 12-member medical team Tareq Al-Mulla told KUNA that the trip lasted for 10 days, during which the doctors conduct necessary tests and operations for refugees in agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), charities and Jordanian hospitals.
He pointed out that the surgical intervention included removal of benign and malignant tumors from brains of a number of patients, with the help of Jordanian doctors.
The surgeons have also treated hydrocephalus, suffered by an eight-month-old child, in addition to treating a number of refugees with ill eyes.
He mentioned that the voluntary team had offered financial support for patients to cover costs of transportation, necessary analysis and diagnostic examination.
The Secretary for Global Affairs at the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Monica Gheorghita Wednesday stressed the strength of the 55-year-old relationship between Romania and Kuwait.
This came in a statement to KUNA on sidelines of a preparatory meeting of the two countries foreign ministries’ senior officials.
Gheorghita’s visit to Kuwait was a preparation for Romania’s Prime Minister visit to Kuwait, for fruitful results on both commercial and economic levels and to discuss the joint relations between the two countries.
On latest developments in the case of the disappearance of Kuwaiti citizen Mohammad Al-Baghli, she confirmed that Romanian authorities have been following the case continuously and seriously since his disappearance.
The Ministry is aware of the sensitivity of the loss of the Kuwaiti citizen in Romania, confirming the ministry’s direct contact with his relatives through the Kuwaiti Embassy in Bucharest for any developments, she said.
For his part, Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister on European Affairs Waleed Al-Khubaizi said in a similar statement, that the first round of the talks dealt with ways of developing bilateral relations and continuing coordination in international forums, in addition to preparations for highlevel bilateral visits, including the visit of the Romanian Prime Minister to Kuwait at the end of this month.
The two sides have discussed bilateral cooperation and the steps taken for a closer ties, especially in economic, defense, cultural, academic and health sectors, and to develop a business plan for 2019, Al-Khubaizi said.

His honoring depicts faithfulness to a generation of Kuwaiti media and artistic figures who have given a lot for the country’s culture, arts and letters, said Issa Al-Ansari, the assistant secretary general for culture at the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL), speaking at a news conference, today.
Fatma Al-Husainan, the festival technical manager, indicated that the festival would focus on national production, noting that the competition would involve 20 short feature films and five long movies.
Tawfic Al-Amir, who shot the iconic Kuwaiti movie, “bas ya bahar,” will be honored at the inaugural session. And, the director Hafez Abdulrazzak will be honored for his remarkable works in
the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Turning to Al-Muhailan’s legacy, she noted his cinematic endeavors in Eritrea, where he shot the film, “Eritrea my homeland,” in 1979.
Among Al-Muhailan’s record cinematic works was the movie, “Al-Ghawas (the diver,” in 1976, narrating the Kuwaitis’ long diving history.
