Michael and Cervantes clinch PBAK Doubles Event title

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: The PBAK Tournament Technical Committee decided to play Doubles Event and practise the PBAK contingent­s in preparatio­n to the upcoming Gulf Cooperatin­g Countries – All Filipino Bowling Tour to be held at Abu Dhabi, UAE this coming November 2018.

The Doubles Event were played in the annual GCC-AFBT meet together with the Masters and Singles Event but the Trios and Doubles were more enjoyable on the part of the participan­ts in the yearly festivitie­s. It brings relish and excitement to husband and wife tandems, partners and teammates. The simple PBAK rules are as follows: Any bowler can choose his/her teammate irrespecti­ve of team and gender but limited to one Mens’ Class A for a team. Handicappi­ng will be applied per game and to play six games and the top five highest pointers of the combined bowlers will be declared champion, first runner-up up to fourth runner-up.

There were twenty (20) teams that participat­ed: 1. Alma Turley/Sonia Mathews; 2. Mohammad Othman/Ahmad Fahmi; 3. Raj Reddy/Allan Fernandes; 4. Agnello Fernandes/Camilo Diego; 5. Sam Behbehani/Pilar Patula; 6. Adolfo Prena/Eddie Pena; 7. Chris Carungay/Jess Tolentino; 8. Moises Amahan/Rene Marzan; 9. Mona Corpuz/Riz Roque; 10. Camilo Baker/ Joel Tizon; 11. Ronnel Valencia/Reygan Percy; 12. Melwin Isaac/Stephen Sequiera; 13. Benyamin Hassan/Nuki Mahindra; 14. Lito Michael/Ruben Cervantes; 15. Bima Nitikusumo/Abel Nitikusumo; 16. Kathy Fernandes/ Fatima Fernandes; 17. Gantosori Tanjung/Erlisa Gantosori; 18. Jessica Balagat/Alonzo Bush; 19. Darryll Sullivan/May Sullivan and 20. Rocky Castil/Joe Presenta.

After the first two games Lito and Ruben scored 222/158 and 166/243 to lead the pack with 927 points followed by two improving Indian bowlers Melwin who scored 172/147 and Stephen who delivered 224/177 with 876 points, third were Jessica and Alonzo (816), fourth were Jun and Joel (811) and fifth placer were Chris and Jess (799). and Riz (779), Alma and Sonia (769) Benyamin and Nuki (765) and tenth placer Raj and Allan (759).

After the third and fourth game it was a rivalry between the top rank Lito/ Ruben and second placed Melwin/Stephen with the score of 1,715-1,644 with difference of 71 points. From fifth position the tandem of Chris/Jess snatched the third spot from Jessica/ Alonzo (1,608-1,517) who dropped to sixth position. Fourth place remain in tight control of Jun/Joel (1,587) while Mona/Riz (1,540) rose from seventh to fifth place. Rocky/Joe (1,516) slide from sixth to seventh place, one step forward for Benyamin/Nuki (1,503) from ninth to eight place, Moises/ Rene (1,479) jumped from thirteenth to ninth place and husband and wife tandem Gantosori/Erlisa(1,477) from eleventh to tenth place.

In the fifth game, the partners’ Lito/ Ruben struggled hard, dominated the race and widens the deficit between them and stalkers Melwin/Stephen 2115-1998 with 117 points variance while unruffled third placer Jess/ Chris (1,997) just a point difference with the second rank. Jun/Joel (1,959) and Mona/Riz (1,926) guarded their fourth and fifth post respective­ly. Rocky/Joe snatched the sixth slot from Jessica/Anthony (1,903-1,879) who was downed to seventh place while new duos of Bima/Abel (1,4701,879) hovered from eleventh to eight spot and Othman/Fahmi (1,4681,868) jumped from twelfth to ninth place and the tenth placer was Moises/Rene (1,862).

In the final sixth game, the formidable tandem of Lito and Ruben continued their phenomenal performanc­e and ended the game with wide smile when they snatched the championsh­ip with 1496 points. Chris and Jess (2,397) unleashed a fiery game to notch the second position so with Jun/ Joel who were indeed happy to steal the third spot with 2,390 points while Melwin/Stephen (2,318) suffered a setback and collapsed to fourth place and Rocky/Joe seized fifth place from Mona/Riz 2314-2284 unluckily found themselves nursing in eight place. Other teams that completed the top ten were Moises/Rene (2,292), Bima/Abel (2289), Othman/Fahmi (2,271) and Alma/Sonia (2,241) .

After the final tabulation­s PBAK Tournament and Technical Committee awarded the trophies and cash prizes to the following winners: Doubles Event: Champions – Lito Mchael and Ruben Cervantes

First Runners-Up – Jess Tolentino and Chris Carungay

Second Runners-Up – Camilo Baker Jr and Joel Tizon

Third Runners-Up – Melwin Isaac and Stephen Sequiera

Fourth Runners-Up – Rocky Castil and Joe Presenta

As per PBAK Advisory, after playing the last two remaining games of the team championsh­ip, it will be followed by awarding of trophies, medals and cash prizes to the winners.
