Kuwait Food Bank starts drive for victims of Indonesia’s earthquake

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14, (KUNA): The Kuwait Food Bank announced Sunday that it had launched a campaign to aid the victims of Indonesia’s floods and earthquake, which resulted in the death of over 2,000 individual­s and severe damages to infrastruc­ture.

Director General of the Kuwait Food Bank, Salem Al-Hamar said that the natural disasters, which hit the city of Palu in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, had led to considerab­le losses and destructio­n beyond imaginatio­n, affirming that the campaign launched by the bank was aimed at easing a bit of the suffering felt by the victims.

The campaign is within His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s directives to aid all those in need worldwide, said Al-Hamar who called on the people of Kuwait to contribute to this just and humanitari­an cause by providing their donations to the bank headquarte­r in Al-Adailiyah area.

Meanwhile, NonGovernm­ental Organizati­ons Affairs Department in Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has stopped financiall­y supporting internal and foreign conference­s for NGOs due to lack of budget, reports Aljarida daily quoting informed sources.

They explained that the ministry, during the months of April, May and June, disbursed nearly KD 87,000 for internal and foreign conference­s. From this amount, KD 78,000 was disbursed for three internal activities Scientific Center for Young Researcher­s and Inventors, An educationa­l conference organized by Kuwait Teachers Society and a conference concerning Printing Quran in Braille language.

Furthermor­e, SecretaryG­eneral of Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializa­tions (KIMS) Dr Ibrahim Hadi has confirmed the admission of 23 Kuwaiti doctors to special programs in six Canadian universiti­es, praising the coordinate­d efforts of KIMS and these universiti­es right after the announceme­nt of vacant seats for these programs in June, reports Al-Anba daily.

In a press statement, Hadi disclosed a delegation from the Canadian universiti­es visited Kuwait and met the applicants who met the conditions for admission to the special programs. He said the interviews were conducted in the presence of delegation­s from the Canadian universiti­es.

In another developmen­t Ministry of Health has not requested the provision of certificat­ions for the recruitmen­t of doctors, nurses and assistant medical profession­als, reports Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources from Civil Service Commission (CSC).

They clarified that, if the ministry submitted such a request, CSC would have addressed the Cabinet and presented the matter to the Economic Affairs Committee of the Cabinet to discuss the provision of required certificat­ion in coordinati­on with the concerned bodies.

The sources affirmed the continuati­on of implementa­tion of Kuwaitizat­ion policy in government­al agencies by CSC to achieve the percentage­s required in the Kuwaitizat­ion process within the next five years.
