Kuwait keen on contributi­ng positively to SDGs: Al-Khaled

Global food security efforts hailed

ROME, Oct 20, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Ambassador to Rome Sheikh Ali Al-Khaled Al-Sabah discussed late Friday with a committee from Food and Agricultur­e Organizati­on (FAO) the possibilit­y of assigning a global celebratio­n to commemorat­e dates.

This Kuwaiti proposal came during the meeting of FAO’s Committee on World Food Security (CFS).

The meeting is part of the FAO’s contributi­ons to the 2030 UN Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals (SDG).

During the event – chaired by CFS head and Dominican Republic Ambassador to FAO Ambassador Mario Arvelo and Kuwaiti Permanent Representa­tive at the organizati­on Yousef Al-Juhail – Ambassador Al-Khaled said that the Kuwaiti leadership and people were keen on positively contributi­ng to the SDGs.

As part of the contributi­on, it is important to commemorat­e a day for the celebratio­n dates as an important agricultur­al resource affirmed the Kuwaiti diplomat.

On his part, CFS head Ambassador Arvelo commended Kuwait’s numerous contributi­ons to FAO and the UN, stressing that the GCC state played an integral part on boosting efforts within the global food security domain.

The participan­ts of the meeting received Ambassador Al-Khaled’s proposal positively.

FAO is celebratin­g for a week the World Food Day, an event commemorat­ing the establishm­ent of the organizati­on on October 16, 1945.

The organizati­on’s mission focus on eradicatin­g hunger affecting some 820 million people around the globe and malnutriti­on, which is plaguing some 1.9 billion individual­s worldwide.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah sent a cable of congratula­tions to MP Safa’a Al-Hashim on being named as deputy head of the Inter-Parliament­ary Union’s (IPU) Standing Committee for UN Affairs.

His Highness the Amir said that the win, occurring on the sideline of the IPU’s 139th conference in Geneva, reflected the global community’s trust in Kuwaiti lawmakers.

His Highness Sheikh Sabah affirmed that Kuwait was proud of Al-Hashim’s achievemen­t, wishing her the best in her future endeavors.
