Khartoum Int’l Book Fair kicks off with Kuwaiti participation
‘Bridges cultural communication’
KHARTOUM, Oct 20, (KUNA): The 14th edition of Khartoum International Book Fair was launched on Thursday with the participation of Kuwait along 250 foreign publishers.
Sudanese Minister of Culture Omar Suleiman praised Kuwait’s participation as did the First Vice-President of Sudan Bakri Saleh who expressed admiration towards the involvement in this exhibition.
Kuwait’s participation in the exhibition aimed at building bridges of cultural communication and cooperation with Sudan through participation in more than 30 titles representing some of the essential Kuwaiti publications and works, said the exhibition’s observer of Kuwait’s Media and Exhibition Department Abdullah Al-Rafdi in a statement to KUNA.
Al-Rafdi pointed out Kuwait’s focus in this exhibition which is highlighting the humanitarian role of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as the leader of humanitarian work and underlining the economic aspect of Kuwait as a financial and economic center besides focusing on its tourism as well as its interests in children’s literature.
While giving a statement to KUNA, Kuwait’s Foreign Media representative Badah Al-Mutalaqim touched on the pavilions focus, which highlights the role of Kuwaiti authors and writers and thanked the Embassy of Kuwait in Khartoum for its support.
The book fair will continue until October 29 and will include various types of books as well as a cultural café where many cultural events will take place, including seminars, lectures, book launches and honoring cultural symbols.
The Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award will hold a press conference Monday to announce winners in the 18th Informatics Award after the selection of the best technical projects in the Arab world.
The press conference will be hosted by Vice Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee Eng Bassam Al-Shammari and Coordinator of the Rehabilitation Committee and Professor of Computer Science at the College of Science and Computer Engineering at the University of Kuwait Dr Thalia Abdul-Aali Abbas Al-Fawzan in the presence of members of the organizing committee and media representatives.
Al-Shammari said in a press statement Saturday that the jury of the award which includes Arab experts in the field of informatics and research from eight Arab countries namely Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Tunisia and Palestine, selected the best technical projects competing for the award according to the agreed terms and criteria. He praised the previous board of judges that achieved remarkable success during the last edition of the award.
He said the award is under the patronage of International Humanitarian Leader His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah while highlighting the unwavering support of Kuwait National Guard Chief HH Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah.
