APA lawmakers agree on forming legislative union
Asian nations to boost co-op
ISTANBUL, Dec 2, (KUNA): The Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) concluded its 11th session on Saturday, and agreed on forming a legislative union.
Speaking to KUNA in a press statement, Rakan Al-Nisf, head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the session, said that the green light made by all parliamentary delegations in this matter is considered an advanced step in favor of the interests of the Continent’s nations.
Kuwait initiated donations when His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah announced, during the Asian Cooperation Dialogue hosted by Kuwait in 2012, two USD billion to finance development projects in non-Arab Asian countries, Al-Nisf stated.
He said that Kuwait has a pioneering role in the APA, hoping for turning it into an Asian parliament.
Meanwhile, Istanbul’s final communique stressed the importance of building sustainable economy amongst member states and issuing laws in line with unified standards so as to carry out development projects to benefit nations and achieve their welfare.
The communique called on the Asian countries to boost cooperation and coordination amongst parliamentarians regarding contributions to finding resolutions to border crossing and complicated issues.
It also called for overcoming challenges and settling continued conflicts in Asia, mainly terrorism and extremism as well as suffering of people.
The conferees called on member states and the international community to support countries suffering from wide internal displacement caused by terrorism so ensure the return of those displaced people to their homes, according to the statement.
They affirmed the necessity of maintaining peace and stability as well as development through mutual understanding, dialogue, cooperation and solidarity.
The APA discussed, over three days, some topics on the agenda that included boosting economic prosperity in Asia and the approval of the agenda of the 11th session as well as others.
The Kuwaiti delegation made some recommendations during the meeting on condemning violence against women in Asia, and human trafficking, as well as empowering and backing Asian women.
The delegation included MPs Ali Al-Deqbasi and Khalil Abul.
