Around 47 cases of forged science degrees discovered so far: minister

Four charges filed against non-Arab Ahmadi school

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 9: Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Hamed Al-Azmi was recently quoted as saying 47 cases of forged science degrees were discovered until date in 2018, including 44 from the Egyptian Universiti­es which works out to 94 percent of all forged certificat­es, one issued by a Russian university and one each from the United Kingdom and US universiti­es, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Al-Azmi gave statement in his response to an inquiry submitted by MP Khalil Abul. He disclosed most fake degrees were issued by the Al-Mansoura University (25 certificat­es) Bachelor and Master Degrees.

Of these, 12 were Law specializa­tions, 4 in commerce, three in the physiologi­cal health and one each in accounting, nursing sciences, letters and psychology science.

The statistic showed the certificat­es were issued between 2009 and 2016. It included 8 cases of fake certificat­e from the Cairo University (five to the law), one PhD in the press and media and two public relations.

The statistic also showed five cases of fake certificat­es in laws specializa­tion were issued by the Tanta University between 2015 and 2017, while the ministry recorded two cases of forgery from the Al-Azhar University (two certificat­es of Master and Bachelor degrees in Sharia and Law, in addition to two from the Higher Institute for the Developed Studies.

Concerning the foreign universiti­es, the ministry pointed out one certificat­e in Business Administra­tion was issued in 2016 by an American university and one in Dermatolog­y Specializa­tion from the Friendship University in Russia and they third by a university in London (Commerce specializa­tion.)

Chief of the Kuwaiti Army General Staff Lieut Gen Mohammad Al-Khuder said on Sunday the army has commenced a blood donation campaign just out of its patriotic and humanitari­an role.

The initiative, which runs until December 16, is mainly intended to answer the country’s national blood needs, and to provide all types of help and support to different ministries and state agencies, the Kuwaiti general said while partaking in the campaign.

On his part, Director of the Defense Ministry’s Moral Guidance and Public Relations Department Brig. Khaled Al-Jeteili said in a statement that the largest-of-its-kind campaign covers all army units.

By so doing, the Kuwaiti army seeks to provide all local hospitals and medical centers with all necessary blood needs, he added. (KUNA)
