‘Crowning moment for Kuwaiti media’
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah on Monday sent a cable of condolences to Sudanese President Omar Hasan Al-Bashir over the victims of a plane crash, who included several officials.
In the cable, His Highness the Amir wished the swift recovery of those injured in the crash.

TUNIS, Dec 10, (KUNA): The Arab States Broadcasting Union has re-elected current President Mohammad Al-Awash for a third term as an appreciation of Kuwait’s significant role in Arab media.
“Such an exceptional re-election interprets Arab broadcasting authorities’ appreciation of Kuwaiti media,” Al-Awash, also Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Affairs at the Kuwaiti Information Ministry, told KUNA Sunday.
He said being the president for the third time in row is an unprecedented event in the union’s 50-year history, noting all Arab media institutions and figures hold Kuwaiti media in high regard.
Al-Awash also pledged to continue ASBU’s march towards success, as well as launching further technological and development projects aimed to enhance Arab media.
For his part, head of Kuwaiti delegation at ASBU’s general assembly meetings Saad Al-Fandi congratulated Al-Awash for his re-election as the union’s president for a third term, describing such a privilege as a crowning moment for Kuwaiti media.
Al-Fandi, also General Director of Radio Kuwait’s Public Program, said the Arab consensus on renewing Al-Awash’s presidency reflects Kuwaiti media’s status on the Arab level, adding such an achievement will make Kuwaiti media carry the responsibility of enhancing Arab media.
Kuwait will continue to serve Arab media causes through its current presidency of the union and other media bodies, he affirmed.
Furthermore, ASBU’s DirectorGeneral Eng. Abdurrahim Suleiman expressed his appreciation of Arab broadcasting authorities’ renewed confidence in his current post for a second term, adding his management, within the last four years, has led the union to make several significant achievements.
Some of the accomplishments include forming the ASBU’s Academy for media training, boosting TV and radio program exchanges among Arab authorities, launching several technological and engineering projects, and improving the union’s financial status.
He pledged to continue such a successful march by completing many pending projects, among which laying the cornerstone for the ASBU’s five-star hotel tomorrow.
Kuwait has played a major role in supporting ASBU, Suleiman mentioned, expressing his appreciation and gratitude to Kuwaiti media and its bodies for believing in the union as a “home” for all Arab media personalities.
Meanwhile, the 38th session of ASBU’s general assembly meetings will carry on at the union’s headquarters in Tunis. The union will also hold celebrate laying the cornerstone of its five-star hotel, which will be specialized to host and accommodate Arab journalists and broadcasting personalities.
