KUWAIT CITY, Dec 10: MP Shu’aib Al-Muwaizri failed to attend the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee for the second time on Monday.

The committee was supposed to discuss the MP’s interpellation request against HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah but he was a no-show once again, so the panel decided to proceed with the preparation of its report on the grilling and it will no longer invite the MP to its next meeting.

Committee member MP Hamad Al-Hershani disclosed the report is far from ready, so it will not be submitted to the National Assembly in time for Tuesday’s session. He hopes the report will be finalized before the session slated for Dec 25.

Furthermore, the Educational, Cultural and Guidance Affairs Committee on Monday talked about the government’s proposal regarding public colleges which, according to committee member MP Yousef Al-Fadala, needs more revisions in order to smoothen out the points of contention.

He revealed the committee has comments about articles on the appointment of the secretary-general and formation of the high council of universities, among other articles that members of the committee deemed inadequate.

On the other hand, MP Mohammed Al-Dalaal said Minister of Education and Higher Education Hamed Al-Azmi has had enough time to lay down a comprehensive plan to resolve the fraudulent credentials and degrees issue, “considering his long experience as undersecretary of the Higher Education Ministry.”

He asserted this issue caused uproar amongst the Kuwaiti public, while acknowledging the efforts exerted by the minister at the beginning and full support of the Assembly; “but everything has stopped since then.”

In another development, the Health and Social Affairs Committee finalized its report on the Mental Health Bill which was forwarded to the Assembly to be tabled for discussion in the upcoming sessions.

This is considered one of the most important bills as it addresses the rights of mental patients and doctors in this field of medicine.

Committee Chairman MP Humoud Al-Khudair said the bill consists of 39 articles and it is now ready for approval by the Assembly.
