AAW concludes ‘Diabetes Health Campaign’

Al Mutawa Pharmacies educates public on disease, offers free check-ups

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: Al-Mutawa Pharmacies concluded its “Diabetes Health Campaign” across all branches in Kuwait throughout the month of November held in occasion of World Diabetes Day. The campaign included visits to different companies to educate them on the disease and free check-ups and blood and pressure tests.

As part of the company’s social responsibi­lity and due to the rising number of people with diabetes in Kuwait, Al-Mutawa Pharmacies launched the diabetes health campaign which continued throughout the month of November and hosted three events at Ali Abdulwahab Al Mutawa Commercial Co (AAW) headquarte­rs in Sharq and its offices in Shuwaikh and Sulaibiya in order to raise awareness amongst its employees and address healthcare issues related to the disease.

AAW Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Mrs Salsabeel Baddar said: “We have organized this campaign because our customers health is of paramount importance to us. I would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the organizati­ons and companies who have supported our efforts in reaching out to the public in order to raise awareness about a common medical condition that can be prevented and treated.”

The campaign’s outreach activities included free on-site check-ups and blood and pressure tests to the public and presented preventive measures and healthy eating practices when living with diabetes in order to shed the light on the importance of early detection and treatment of the disease. Certified pharmacist­s answered questions and shared best practices to prevent and treat the disease on Al-Mutawa Pharmacies social media accounts.

Al-Mutawa Pharmacies organized visits to private corporatio­ns in Kuwait including the National Bank of Kuwait, Ooredoo, Burgan Bank, Nestle, Al Anbaa and Al Jaridah Newspapers, Sultan Center, Gold’s Gym, Symphony Hotel, Al-Nibras Internatio­nal Bilingual School, the Manpower & Government Restructur­ing Program building, OTIS company and the mobile telecommun­ication company – Zain to educate their staff, share medical advice, and conduct free check-ups. The company also participat­ed in the 9th Health Awareness Exhibition organized by Rawd Al-Saleheen Bilingual School on Nov 21 under the patronage of the Ministry of Health. The event aimed to raise awareness among students on how to live a healthy lifestyle and ways of taking precaution­s against various diseases like diabetes, obesity, and more.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body’s ability to produce or respond to the hormone insulin is impaired, resulting in abnormal metabolism of carbohydra­tes and elevated levels of glucose in the blood. It is identified by various types: Type 1 occurs when insulin production is inadequate, while Type 2 occurs when insulin is produced adequately but the body’s cells do not respond properly to it.
