Govt planning to build 200,000 housing units by fiscal ’24/’25

Short-term strategy aims to create 60,000 units

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 11: The government plans to build 200,000 housing units by the fiscal year 2024/2025 to meet the growing needs of citizens, reports Annahar daily.

The daily added, this is within the new Kuwait Development Plan ‘Kuwait 2025’, under the supervision of the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning to implement its projects.

The short-term strategy aims to create 60,000 housing units over the next two years to ease the pressure on demand for residential care. The plan is part of a strategy to build smart cities in the north through the 2035 projects for the citizens to obtain a housing unit.

At the moment there are 98,000 applications for housing units and the concerned authority seeks to reduce these numbers into half during the coming period, so as not to inflate the numbers since on an average 6,000 applications are received for housing care.

The new units include three options for the citizens. The first is the residential plot, which is usually a measuring between 300 and 500 square meters in an area full of facilities, services and infrastructure, accompanied by a soft housing loan from the Kuwait Credit Bank of KD 70,000 and building materials supported by about 30,000 dinars; the second option is to obtain a fullfledged home from the government and the third option is to obtain an apartment in a privileged area, usually with a sea view.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Bassel Al-Sabah has amended the third item of the executive bylaw on Pre-Marriage Medical Examination Law Number 31/2008, such that the applications of couples intending to get married are submitted directly to the pre-marriage medical examination centers instead of the Justice Ministry, reports Al-Anba daily.

The couples undergo medical checkup upon submission of the required documents. They should fill up and sign the forms, ensuring that the information they provide is valid.

This law is applicable to couples planning to get married if one or both of them are Kuwaitis
