Banned caller ID application reinstated due to discontent

‘Abusive calls’

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 11: The Caller ID applications, which were banned a few months ago, have been reinstated in Kuwait due to popular discontent citing abusive calls, reports Al-Rai daily.

In this regard, the head of the Public Authority for Communications and Information Technology Salem Al-Uthina told the daily these applications did not codify their status with the authority and that they have made technical changes to resume work and that it will be processed by the authority to close these applications again.

However, the paradox was that applications were strengthened to their legal position. There were significant changes in all aspects of legal liability through the operating agreement between the service provider and the user.

The agreement stated that “the application and its website do not bear any responsibility for the authenticity of the names mentioned by the users, and that any potential abuse is the responsibility of the owner and cannot refer to the owner of the application or site.

The agreement also states that “the user acknowledges that his/her phone number will be accessible to everyone who uses the application with the rest of the data without any responsibility to the application managers, programmers or designers.”

This is in addition to the fact that the approval of the agreement is a confirmation by the user of his/her full consent to the right of the application and the site to copy the contact data recorded on the user’s phone and that the application has the right to re-submit this data to any of its users without any legal responsibility for the application and its owners and agents towards the user or third parties.

The terms of the agreement include that the application is not responsible for any incorrect information for any number and any name in any way, nor does it claim the validity of the names of the numbers.
