Nat’l companies excluded from participating in some tenders

‘Foreign firms do not contribute to positive returns’

-

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 12: It is surprising that the national companies are prevented or rather excluded from participating in some tenders, reports AlQabas daily quoting informed sources.

The sources said according to instructions received by the Ministry of Public Works and the Central Tenders Committee, Minister of Public Works Jenan Bushehri has pointed out that recently the invitation of the Ministry of Public Works restricted the participation in buildings and roads tenders to foreign companies only.

This prevents the participation of national companies that are the right hand of the state in development. There are many national companies that match some foreign companies, both in terms of experience in accomplishing similar projects or technical competence and solvency, in addition to knowhow of the national companies the nature of work in the local market.

Moreover, the sources said, the foreign companies do not contribute to positive returns on the national economy in many ways.

The sources said this subject should be studied in depth and the national companies should be allowed to participate in the tenders of those projects in the interest of all concerned parties.

Concerning the tender No. H/268 on roads and intersections that will serve the new passenger terminal of Kuwait International Airport on AlMaqwa Road, the request has been put forward to allow national companies to take part in the tender.
