Kuwait win three medals in HH the Amir Int’l Shooting tourney

Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s International shooting Grand Prix. Kuwait’s national shooting team won three medals at the eighth edition of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s International Shooting Grand Prix.

Talal Al-Turqi won the gold medal at the men’s trap competitions, while his compatriot Khaled Al-Modhaf clinched the bronze medal. Saudi Arabia’s Fahad Al-Mutairi earned the silver medal.

In the women’s trap competition, Kuwaiti female shooter Sara Al-Hawal won the gold medal, while the silver medal went to Italy’s Isabella Christina and the bronze to her compatriot Julia Gracia.

Meanwhile, Oman’s Hamad Al-Khateri won the gold medal at the men’s 50m pistol competitions. His compatriot Ibrahim Al-Moqeeli clinched the bronze medal, while Serbia’s Milenko Sebic earned the silver medal.

In the men’s 10m air rifle competitions, Saudi shooter Attallah Al-Enezi won the gold medal. Serbian shooter Damir Mikec earned the silver medal, while the bronze medal went Kazakhstan’s Valdar Emil Nikolov.

Moreover, Serbia shooter Zorana Arunovic won the gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle competitions, while Armenia’s Valmira Karabetian earned the silver medal, and Bulgaria’s Maria Grozdeva clinched the bronze medal.

For her part, Al-Hawal told KUNA she attained her win following a “fierce” competition against world champions from Italy and Kazakhstan, and in light of rainy and windy weather.

Nevertheless, she said her great focus contributed to her qualification to the first place in the playoffs by scoring 42 discs out of 50.

Al-Hawal dedicated her win to His Highness the Amir, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the entire members of Kuwaiti shooting sport.

She also valued the great support by Kuwait Shooting Federation’s President Duaij Al-Otaibi and Secretary Obaid Al-Osaimi to the Kuwaiti team.

For his part, Al-Turqi said placing first and third in the trap competitions remains a very decent accomplishment for Kuwait in light of the tournament’s strong competitions, expressing his pride in winning the gold for his country.

He also mentioned scoring 118 disks out of 125 earned him the place first, adding such a win has given him a powerful motivation to compete in the forthcoming ISSF World Cup Shotgun, slated for March 15 in Acapulco, Mexico.

Some 420 shooters from 42 countries are competing in the International Shooting Grand Prix, which kicked off at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex on Saturday. (KUNA)
