Lebanon’s premier praises Kuwait’s support, commends Taif Agreement
Al-Qenaie receives honorary plaque
BEIRUT, Feb 14, (KUNA): Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri on Wednesday praised a large number of Arab and foreign countries, including Kuwait, for their supportive stances to the country and its people.
Speaking at a ceremony during Taif forum organized by Al-Hariri institution in collaboration with the Saudi embassy marking the 14th anniversary of the assassination of former premier Rafiq Al-Hariri, Saad Al-Hariri said the Taif Agreement put an end to a civil war and was a document of national accord that formed a new constitution of Lebanon.
The agreement has turned to be an example to many countries in the region that are yearning for peace and safety through reaching a political settlement, he said.
He added that Saudi Arabia’s leadership and people have always been standing side by side with Lebanese people.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Ambassador in Beirut Abdulaal Al-Qenaie confirmed to KUNA that the State of Kuwait has been supporting Lebanon and its people in all conditions to maintain its stability and sovereignty.
Al-Qenaie who is also the dean of Arab diplomatic corps received the honorary recognition plaque during the ceremony.
He expressed that the Kuwaiti government wishes the new Lebanese cabinet every success in leading the country to stability, security, progress and peace.
He stressed continued cooperation between the two governments to be in the interest of their nations.
Furthermore, Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Waleed Al-Bokhari said that “the Taif Agreement has become – in accordance with the will of Lebanese people – a constitution of the Republic which suffered from deaths”.
“We are defending Lebanon and its independence, and consider ourselves as part of Lebanon and Lebanon is part of us,” he told the attendees.
Saudi Arabia has played a pivotal role in the path of the Taif Agreement, he said, adding that the Lebanese approved the accord and make it a title of their peace.
A number of senior Lebanese, Arab and foreign officials and accredited envoys were present in the ceremony.
