Labor dispute follow-up department receives 15-20 thousand complaints annually: official

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 14: Head of Labor Disputes Department at the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) Sultan Al-Zoghbi said the sector receives 15,000 to 20,000 complaints from workers annually, which include applicatio­ns for terminatio­n of work contract, transfer of indemnity, and requests for transfer from one job to another, reports AlQabas daily.

Al-Zoghbi revealed this at a recent seminar organized by the Federation of Companies in cooperatio­n with PAM on the Kuwaiti Labor Law titled ‘Obligation­s of the Employer in accordance with Kuwaiti Labor Law No.6/2010 and gave detailed explanatio­n of Labor Law, employment contract and obligation­s of the parties to the employment contract included in Law No.6/2010, such as salaries and the rules of paying them.

He confirmed that labor legislatio­n is keen on protecting workers’ salary; stressing the importance of organizing the working hours due to its direct link with the economy and productivi­ty in the country. He also made mention of holidays the workers are entitled to during the year and the employer’s commitment to providing security needs of working women in case they are on duty after 10 pm. He stated the employers’ commitment to providing their workers indemnity certificat­es and specifying the conditions of granting working women time to breastfeed their babies .

For her part, director of technical support for the federation, acting director of the Center for Investment Studies Fadwa Darwish said the seminar comes as a follow-up to the Federation of Investment Companies on the latest developmen­ts and best practices for implementi­ng relevant laws and legislatio­n in the activities of investment companies by inviting them to attend the seminar.

She pointed out that the seminar was aimed at helping companies to figure out the proper way of enforcing the Kuwaiti Labor Law and the latest developmen­ts and decisions implemente­d therein, as well as the mechanisms of proper applicatio­n.
