Kuwaiti detained for 6 hours, freed after brass interventi­on

Woman spits on traffic cops

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 14: Kuwaiti Hani Al-Mousawi was ‘detained’ for six hours in Lome, the capital of the Republic of Togo, and was released only after Sheikh Radwan, brother of the country’s Minister of Economy and cousin of the Togolese Ambassador to Kuwait intervened, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Mousawi has posted on his Instagram account what happened to him in the Republic of Togo. He said when he arrived at the passport counter he produced his passport and he was made to wait before being subjected for interrogat­ion following which they told him that he needs a prior invitation to enter the country and put him in prison for six hours.

He was allowed to take his phone with him and this allowed him to contact the outside world.

After Al-Radwan intervened he was released and taken to a hotel, courtesy of Sheikh Radwan. He has posted pictures of what happened at the airport, during interrogat­ion and the place of hospitalit­y.

Disrespect for law: An unidentifi­ed young woman, driving without a licence, had the audacity to publicly spit in the face and humiliate two General Traffic Department officials, in what is seen as continued disrespect for the law and men in uniform who sometimes are even manhandled, reports Al-Rai daily.

Nonetheles­s, the woman has been arrested and referred to the Public Prosecutio­n.

According to a security source this happened when the two patrolmen were on a security tour in the suburb of Al-Qadsiya and suspected the woman on suspicion. When she was asked to show her driving licence, she failed, following which they issued her a citation and at this point the woman allegedly lost her cool and spat on them.

The patrolmen immediatel­y asked for support to control the rude woman and when another patrol with two officers asked the girl to obey the orders of the two security men, she spat on them too and hurled insults on them.

The source added securityme­n were then forced to use force and the woman was arrested and taken to the police station. A security source said after interrogat­ion, the woman was released on 200 dinars bail.

Caught doing drugs: Police have arrested two men – a Kuwaiti and Saudi – for consuming drugs inside a car parked beside the fence of the embassy of an unidentifi­ed Arab country, reports Al-Rai daily.

The men have been referred to the State Security service to find out why what they were in that vital place.

A security source said the arrest came after someone reported to the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior that a car was parked in a suspicious manner next to the embassy wall.

The same source said the men were put under surveillan­ce and they were ordered to move away and taken into custody. While checking their IDs, police discovered they were under the influence of drugs.

After interrogat­ions with the State Security the men will be referred to the General Department for Drugs Control.

Two assault police: Two Kuwaitis, 35 and 39 years old, assaulted an officer affiliated to Farwaniya rescue patrol on duty in Khaitan when he stopped them for inspection, during which they were found to be in possession of cigarettes suspected to be filled with narcotics substances along with drug parapherna­lia.

When the officer took the suspects to the patrol vehicle, they beat him and he sustained head injury. The officer called for backup, resulting in the arrest of the suspects.

The injured officer was taken to Farwaniya Hospital while the two Kuwaitis were referred to the concerned security department for questionin­g and other legal measures.

Power cables stolen: Police are looking for an unidentifi­ed thief for stealing six power cables from one of the power transforme­rs in Al-Rehab as a result of which the entire area was thrown into darkness, reports AlRai daily.

When people complained of power outage, one of the employees of the Ministry of Electricit­y who was sent to the area discovered the theft of the cables.
